Well known? Is that right? Would you mind padding that out with some detail please?

Dubois did hit low repeatedly but I don’t think he was fighting dirty, I think he was in accurate.

A fight that should have been stopped but the champion received favourable treatment:

Just listened to Bunce and Woodhall on 5 Live Boxing. Woodhall saying its low but FW was interviewed and said in the rules meeting and in the dressing room before the fight the ref allegedly said anything on the belt is legal.

I’ve also just listened to Woodhall and Bunce.
I was surprised that Richie didn’t say it, he always used to tell us ‘skin is legal, cloth is not’.
Obviously it’s not literally true but if you only hit skin then you are never concerned about officials ruling against you.

A fair part of the contact point was below the belt.

If boxing is to deviate from the existing guidelines and allow fighters to be hit flush on the shorts, the referee should get a permanent marker and draw the legal limit line on the fighter's shorts before the first bell.

What if the trainer then pulls the shorts up?

Dubois did hit low repeatedly but I don’t think he was fighting dirty, I think he was in accurate.
If you haven't seen all his fights where he was dropped down by body shots and then complained they were low blows, then I can't do much.

Dubois landed some low blows, true, he was aiming for the body and considering the glove size, it's impossible to land on a small spot. But by the 5th-round punch, the game was fine and the punch was on the line - legal.

stevec@france wrote: 28 Aug 2023, 04:56If Usyk is well known for anything apart from brilliant boxing - its being respectful to the sport and his opponent but when someone tries to low blows or use the head / shoulder etc he will flag that up in the ring to remind the ref and judges about the rules .
He did it vs Chisora who was trying to grab wrestle & throw him around rather than box .
I never said he isn't a brilliant boxer. How about the elbow Usyk landed on Dubois at the moment of the punch? How about Luis Pabon doing the same in a similar situation in Usyk-AJ 2? How about Pabon not seeing any excessive clinching in Klitschko-Povetkin? So either he's corrupt or he is incompetent. Or even both.

The body isn’t small enough that landing a shot wearing a boxing glove is tricky.
I’ve never hit shorts wearing 10s for a contest or 16s for sparring.

Right because a glove can't punch a small area, then based on the common Usyk reactions to body shots, we might as well forbid the body punches, as it becomes very hard to land purely the entire glove above the navel.

I don't know what you hit or if it is true. But this is only you - in a sea of fighting people. So what does that prove?

It was a low blow under the rules of the organisations that sanctioned this fight.

This isn't subjective but purely objective. Dubois punched into an area that, under said rules, is not a permitted area in which to punch.

Don't really understand why there is a debate about this.

Yeah. It’s a real strange one isn’t.

I’m amazed by the amount of people involved in boxing, seemingly neutral, who still think it’s a fair punch.

Because the Fury fans think by saying Dubois should have won then it's legitimate reason why Fury can continue to avoid fighting Usyk ...

Fair point T - I do understand why there is a debate about it, but there shouldn't be one based on logic, intelligence and understanding of the rules. (All of which I know you possess in abundance).

It was a low blow, if it was the Ward vs Kovalev ref, Dubois would've gotten away with it countless times. Usyk would've beaten the count no doubt about it if they ruled it legit and started a count, he would've rode out the pain. FW is just bitter that his boy Dubois turned into a dud who keeps quitting.

fWank showed his bias towards Dubois when he fought Joyce; fWank really had all his hopes that Dubois would take over from Fury.

The obituary of Dubois career will be that he showed great promise; that he could have been the guy to take over the heavyweight division.
But pushing guys too fast too young runs the risk of ruining them as I think has happened to Dubois.

That quit is too easy for him now - he doesn't even seem embarrassed about it. Most boxers will look to their corners when they feel in trouble, but Dubois will always look to quit. His next serious opponent will have encouragement even when he is in trouble that Dubois is close to quitting .. just another round, or just another hard punch and Dubois will look for a way out again.

It's harsh to say it about such a talented 25/26 yr old - but Dubois is ruined.

not at all clear what your point is so I cant be arsed to respond especially about unrelated fights from years ago .

The thing that is clear to almost everyone including the ref is - it was a low blow .
