According to Jack Reiss: naval is subjective. Some have different body times.

Longer torso’s etc.

He said it goes off hip line.

That’s why at the start of the fight. The ref usually points to hip line

If the hipline is where it is, it's borderline.

Usyk couldn't have complained much if it went the other way.

It's a long way from what Duran did to.Buchanon

Poppycock, the hips are below the beltline, which starts below the navel.

None of this is subjective.

Where the line, below which you cannot legally punch is established by every boxing commission in the world and it is relatively consistent.

Under all of those commissions It was an unlawful punch. Posting photos of trunk heights of other fighters is just irrelevant

Yep based on that we should be all saying Buchanan was weak to the body and milked it. Different punch trichectrory but I would say it is similar to the Dubiois show where it landed.

Buchanan's cup was broken from the punch

It was a punch in the nuts

Duran was looking at his nuts too, I always felt it was an intentional foul

It was most definitely a low blow.

Whether Usyk milked it, or whether he has an aversion to body punches is a moot point, the punch was low and the referee called it correctly.

Exactly. The belt line is across the top of the hip bones. Rule 3.31 under BBBofC rules, same under other governing bodies. All this stuff about balls, belly buttons, height of Usyk’s shorts, is irrelevant and tedious.

If you have a high belt where your hips are below the elasticated belt part, you can hit on or a touch below the elasticated waistband.

You often hear refs say hitting on the waistband is fine in the instructions when waistbands are high

ive never seen a ref point to an area below the waist band and say it's okay to punch there, even for fighters with high trunks

usyk's trunks werent high anyway, dubs were though, a good ol tyson fury almost up to the tits thing going on

basically, any contact below the belly button is illegal. unless usyk is deformed dubois is definitely making contact lower than that here. there have been lower of coourse, but still illegal

Low blow rules aren't only for the ballsac. It protects the bladder and and all areas below the belly button. The punch was low and Dubois knew it. He didn't act like he just scored a knockdown and showed no arguing about a low blow.

Jack Reiss, who refereed Fury-Wilder 1 provides some clarity regarding what is and isn’t a low blow :

“Everybody’s belly button is different, some are lower and some are higher. So you can’t use the belly button. The hip line is the low blow point – the belly button has nothing to do with it.

A low blow is any time the majority of the gloves is below that hip line. On the hip line is legal, and it doesn’t become illegal until a majority of the glove starts to get below it.

This is why we identify the hip line for everybody before a fight – this is the line, don’t hit below this.”

belly button is roughly at top of hips, that's why it's convenient to use as a visual guide. either way though, it shows a punch can be low even being well above the ball sack

Mate, this is not a statement, it's in the "news" section and it is written in the style of news, not an assessment of the blow and the decision - such is about to come eventually.

Thought it was low at the time and after all this shite in the media since, still think the same now. I can't understand the controversy over it.

Me neither.

It's quite obviously a low blow.

It may not have been in the ballbags and Usyk milked it and yes, Usyk's shorts were not excessively high; Dubois's were even higher and there are no memes about him, but it was a low blow period.

Not really hard to see and no controversy as far as I can see.
