Feels like they only announced the Usyk fight to take the heat off Ngannou fight, more chance people will tune in. I won't believe it tilll i see a date, venue and press conference
That was my initial thought too - Fury did exactly the same in build up to Chisora last year
But .. this time Usyks people seem more on board with it happening. Plus if reports are right - the 3 fight £164 million includes the Usyk fight plus rematch.
I’m not sure if the money is going to definitely sway it considering Furys’ wealth already. I half suspect Usyk has a style Fury knows he won’t cope well with. Plus he seems woefully out of shape!
I don't imagine Fury being too concerned if he lost twice to Usyk and still picked up the £164 million ..
At this point in time he is all about money and celebrity .. with money just edging it.
It's hard to imagine Fury fighting Usyk on 23rd December though. He hasnt had a serious test for quite a few years, and not been in proper shape even longer. It's one thing getting down to a certain weight, but it's keeping the muscle and stamina. He will have definitely lost a considerable amount of that wasting time with Chisora and Ngannou.
The Saudis know the clock's ticking on their oil wealth, making efforts to cosy up to the US re: Israel of late, and this is the biggest sportswashing investment available. A guaranteed pot of gold with a rematch clause...
Latest interview with Usyk doesn't give the fight happening much confidence.
He doubts it happening on December 23rd .. contradicts a bit by saying he needs a 14 week camp, then later saying he hopes it's in December.
He will apparently be at the Fury v Ngannou show .. so it will either be confirmed then - or more likely just using Usyks name to sell the Ngannou show as with Chisora.

Usyk turned the fight down last December with an “injury”.
It doesn't look too nailed on though from Usyks interview.
Unless he playing it down of course. The only positive I can see is that he is going to attend the Fury v Ngannou show .. couldn't imagine him wasting his time unless it was all agreed .. well not unless he and his team were offered a few nights all expenses paid stay in a 6* hotel .. with a nice pay cheque to boot
December 23rd never has been nailed on. When the fight was announced, every report had a possible date of 23rd December, but also stating January as well.
Usyk appears to just be saying that it might be the latter date.
His opponent needs to come through his cash grab fight against the novice without injury first before a date can be nailed on.
I wouldn't read too much into this unless you're John Fury AKA Big Doofus with nothing to do until the next Youtuber get together.
