Footage of Igor Vysotsky getting floored by Evgeny Gortschkov, 1975

Post by Joson »

I had always believed that Igor Vysotsky was never off his feet in his entire career. But then I found this British Pathe clip of Evgeny Gortschkov decking him with a right to the jaw. The year is 1975, and the setting is the Soviet national championships.

wasn't able to watch it in slo-mo, but looked more like a stumble to me.
if any punch would have floored him, it would have been that left hook that landed and made his head jerk back like a
"Pez-Despencer".

Surprised Angel Milian wasn't able to floor him when they battled. Or Mitch Green.

Vysotsky was known for his durability. Many people - including me until recently - believed he was never knocked down as an amateur. Igor's real bane was eye ridge cuts. He was TKO'd several times for that reason.

Sad. Because it would have been an interesting scenario if he was in Montreal.
