That way it enables even those without a big promoter or deep pockets to get the advantages too.

Just provide the information of possible side effects, and let them decide if they feel its worth it.

Those that say it will damage their health are kinda overlooking the fact that getting punched in the head is well known to cause chronic traumatic brain encephalopathy anyway. Yet kids still get encouraged by their parents to box .. adults take part in SlapFight.

Completely reductionist, friends with big pockets can get better PEDS, you think you can approach a street dealer and get the same quality as the top boys?? So you've just created another big problem and disparity there

Also, Getting punched in the head is bad for you so who cares argument is stupid, cuz that's a consent at least, I don't consent to fighting a man on steroids, maybe that makes me naive, but listening to pussyvoice Joe Rogan and his 20 testosterone shots a day talking about traditional masculinity has taken its toll perhaps

Much more brain damaging than any fight Id confidently wager

That’s probably a longer span of heavy abuse than the average professional bodybuilder, and they drop like flies in their middle age. Drugs completely screw up your natural hormone production and in many cases change the actual structure of your major organs, accelerate the growth of cancers, a lot of negatives! And then add in weight loss orientated drugs, dehydrating agents etc. high dosing EPO for improved blood oxygen. It’s all pretty hazardous stuff!
But aren’t they allowed in bodybuilding? I guess if the actual drug isn’t illegal then it’s a choice whether you want to take it?

The difference is you consent to a fight where I expect the other guy to be in good shape, but not pumped with industrial shi!te, I , you, or a family member , could get seriously injured or killed, we already expect a level of brutality out of boxing, it's a juxtoposition at the best of times as we jump up for a knockout but then quickly remember there's a human being whos lying unconscious( and hopefully that's the worst) for it, it's always been a corrupt sport open to exploitation, even at its "purest" form of can be utterly savage (an overused word now but apt when people's heads are hitting the floor)how do we fix all the holes in this ship, I couldn't begin to tell you, but if we're going to just have a complete free for all then I say good luck and I probably opt out
As I said in my opening post I think they should be illegal. However it seems the untraceable PEDs are a thing so the testers are probably scratching the service in terms of who they catch. Even then they can eventually fight again anyway.

PEDs and killing someone is often said but I’m not sure if anyone has actually ever killed an opponent and been found guilty of taking drugs, I could be wrong on that but nothing springs to mind. In reality we watch complete mismatches all the time, out of shape fighters, completely inept fighters, fighters way past their best and unable to make a coherent sentence, getting smacked around by some up and coming pro who has been given the best training and preparation while their opponent has hardly trained or is out of their depth in terms of competitiveness. Isn’t that more dangerous?

The
Problem is the testing is already shi t . You're allowed something like five times the normal level of Testosterone expected from a normal person before they see it as adverse, was that BBBoC or VADA I'm not sure, none of them are very good, and it's extremely confusing , too confusing for me as a metaphorical up and comer living on pot noodles

So I would dare say many fighters have been injured by a PED user who we didn't know was a PED user because testing is just, again, barely even fit for purpose , and the cheating is just absolutely rampant, for a reason you stated, kind of like nuclear proliferation mentality, if they're doin it we better do it, but problem is not everyone is doing it, we just assume our opponent is to justify it in our own heads

Some fighters clearly aren't fit to be licensed, and Robert Smith is corrupt, some other fighters may have 30 odd losing streak but can tuck up to take a prospect four rounds, which is exactly why we can't expect boxing to be now be stripped of what little regulation it already has rather than fixing or adding to it, keep the same guy as head of the INBoX for the last 3 decades and ask why it's all a corrupt shambles it's a wild West sport where each "board" or "athletic commission" is in competition with each other so it's basically a wild West where there is no authority and biggest pocket best connections gets the grease

If they'll let things like, to use a contemporary example, Lucy Letby away with murder because they (The Trusts) were competing for funds, they'll do anything, you know the dodgy bastards involved in this sport too

I say we need MORE regulation, from the ground level up, and less of a wild West shitshow, we need regulating bodies that don't regulate and investigate themselves, regulating bodies that don't stop regulating certain things when big brown letters get handed around by people with the right connections

This is a discussion that goes beyond PEDs, but I don't think the failures of attempted regulation from corrupt bodies means that regulation is now a bad thing

For me it depends on whether we could establish relatively safe limits within the zone of meaningful gains. Say if a typical heavy could achieve half a bodybuilder's returns at a fifth their risk.

Should a spike in risk coincide with diminishing returns I'd use that to set the bar shy. You'd still get some going nuclear for their biggest fights, but I could see that working most of the time.

Unless major gains are always in tandem with a rapidly accelerating risk...

People will try and cheat no matter what limits are set.

All you can do is try and stop it, cheating at something profitable is older than currency itself

Unfortunately boxing is rarely a level playing field.
Those with best promotor or most money behind them get the advantages.
Whether that's the best PEDs, best training opportunities, or just the easiest opponents to knock over such as Campbell Hatton has benefited from and others set to copy .. Aadam Hamed facing a 17yr kid who didn't look as if he'd done any training is a disgrace.

As Conor Benn and Tyson Fury have demonstrated. If you take banned PEDs and get caught your relatively safe if you have enough money to argue it.

I can't remember who said it but they said if boxing was tested at the same levels as track and field then most fighters would likely fail testing. When you have multiple belts, boards and different rules from country to country (or even state to state in America) the likelihood of getting them to all work to the same set of rules is impossible.

All they can really do is make testing more regular, more random and thorough and anyone caught is banned for life. The costs involved means it won't happen though so I guess we are left with how it is now where some fighters are likely taking something they shouldn't be.

Interesting interview on the Boxing News podcast with Victor Conte explaining how pointless a lot of the testing bodies are and how people can cheat without being caught. Also how lenient the testing limits are in some instances where you can have elevated levels but still pass.

Boxing is eating itself, PED failure tests left, right and centre and Heavyweight Champions are now boxing people with no prior boxing experience. A new low.

Its a sign of where boxing is going, or more appropriately, where it has gone. When the WBC make a specific belt for a paitr of novices like Jake Paul v Tommy Fury to fight for, and of course the belt for Tyson Fury to have an exhibition with Ngannou

It’s all about money, it always has been to be fair but these “celebs” bring millions of followers who buy more tickets that boxing fans for real fights.

I believe HGH should be seen in a slightly different light, there are studies that it has protective responses on the brain.

Ironically one of the best voices on this is Olubamiwo as as well as using them he has a degree in pharmaceutical chemistry, he's derided as a bitter ex -PED'er but has some lucid thoughts on the subject. His recent interview with Tris Dixon is well worth a listen, albeit a long one at 2hrs plus.

My question for the 'fors'.

Would you like more brain damage and deaths in boxing? Yes or No?

I agree, I don’t think they should be allowed, I was just seeing what others thought. Goes back to the problem that it’s almost impossible to get caught taking stuff if you know what you’re doing.

how dare you accuse Tyson of PEDS, that pesky farmer was lying, and his trainer at that time had no history of being a convicted drug baron so could never have sourced anything illegal!
