Interesting post Spud - I love these insights.

I remember when Haye was in his prime and was a guest on Soccer AM and didn't turn up as planned.

He eventually turned up half way through the show- he git away with it because he was a big star at this point.

Helen Chamberlain was laughing g and joking g with him asking why he was late, Haye said thst he just gets up whatever time he wakes up and does what he feels like when he feels like it.

The Soccer AM team seemed to find this hilarious although I am sure the producer was doing their nut.

He seemed to try to portray himself as some wonderful free spirit shite.

When fit no one could say David didn’t like training as he was always in the gym.

Why do you think he had so many injuries, just unlucky or overtraining?

I can’t remember who said it but they were talking about Haye when he was an amateur and said he was normally late for training and would wander into the gym listening to music without a care in the world and never seemed nervous before fights.

When you think what Adam & David achieved its seems sillyto say he could of achieved so much more.

Or was it simply the case David Haye was too small to achieve much more at heavyweight.

Hate definitely sometimes really looked dynamic at heavyweight, but needed quite careful match making. I’d imagine in stronger eras he would have been stopped a lot more.

Sometimes it’s fairly obvious, like Vasiliy Lomachenko getting roughed up in his admittedly hard debut, but then any so called weakness was quickly corrected in future fights. For natural people such rapid transformations are impossible. I think British boxers has its fair share of stand out amateurs that end up getting overpowered in the pro game. 99% does seem high, but I’d wager more or less 99% of world ranked heavyweights are on something! Early career Joshua - geez! How many times did Whyte get caught just trying to keep up!
- Quite aptly named after skunks I say, so your overwhelming stink don't ever disappoint, nor dissipate, and cannot be flushed...phew...

Loma debut famously downgraded by his promoter Arum who sold him down the river in his first fight by denying him his world title challenge, instead picking a respectable journeyman, Jose Luis Ramirez, 25-3, for a WBO International title whom Loma easily dispatched inside 4 rounds in perhaps the most impressive pro debut ever. Next Arum did indeed schedule a notorious drug cheat, Orlando Salido for the WBO Feather title where Salido is nowhere near the weight and steps into the ring as a welter where he precedes to low blow, hit on the break, headbutt, and generally break as many rules as many times as he can all officiated by the officially most stupid if not a rare combination of most incompetent Laurence Cole who has butchered too many fights to count.

Even so, Loma and his pop went for broke all out where he had the drug cheat on verge of KO, but "No, no, say Cole, pulling Loma off repeatedly before he could finish Salido for good. Salido, now fully disgraced by "knowledgeable" boxing fans, never recovered to eventually retire in a stinking disgrace that you must've savored as being non-flushable.

Loma moved 3 divisions from 126-135, a gain of 9 measly pounds, about the total weight of your skunk spray every time you post on peds. As both Olympian and Pro with over 300 bouts, Loma passed every drug test, over a hundred only to be savaged here by a self identified low testa male polluting the world waterways with viagra and sedatives, ie so obsessed with drugs he's up to his eyeballs in gear.

Obviously I don’t know, but I’d suggest you’d have to be pretty naive to think any professional boxer who reaches the P4P number one is natty. Already on another thread someone pointed out a clear loop hole in UKAD testing (and presumably VADA testing) that the testers don’t call between say 11pm and 7am, which allows micro-dosing to be possible. Lance Armstrong regularly boasted he passed 500 drug tests, even if the real figure might have been nearer 250.

What was David doing sparring Hrgovic a few days before the fight? (Was it or 5 days before?) Was he wearing a head guard?

A week out for final spar is pretty normal.

I don’t believe that Loma is dirty.
Whilst David Haye has since become a bit of a cartoon character who will say anything for a few quid, I did once love him.
He is a big lump but not a natural heavy as demonstrated by his relatively small stature now that he is retired. Obviously he was artificially pumped up to heavy but with Tabares feeding him and a good training routine could take him there IMO and hope.

I was talking more generally with regards weight rather than a specific contest but presumably he could remember what Tabares told him to eat etc.

He wasn't the biggest HW compared to some but the same size as Ali, same height, reach and weight. Haye done an experiment in 2022 where he stopped training and eating right and he went up to 16.7 stone with 23% body fat. He started training and eating right and got his weight down to 15.7 stone with 10% body fat, that was in November 2022 so he was 41 at the point. I've heard him say he's the same weight now as he was boxing as a HW.

A lot depends on bone structure, genetics, muscle mass etc. You could look at five different guys, who are all 6' 3" and 15 and a half stone and they would all have different body compositions.
