Forcing Tszyu backwards isn't the key to beating the guy. He fought a lot of his fights, mixing it up on his back foot, landing pwerful counterpunches at range. What Hatton managed to do was keep Tszyu at close quarters nullifying his power, whilst roughing him up and outworking him. Not sure this is in Margarito's makeup as a fighter. Haven't seen a lot of Margarito but what I have seen suggests that whilst being aggressive, he likes to throw his combos at range. This gives Tszyu enough time and space to deliver telling power shots.El Raincoat wrote:No if Hatton managed to get Tszyu to go backwards margarito would to. Margarito is a lot bigger than Tszyu i'd say Margarito stops him late.
Having said all this, the outcome of this potential fight would depend on how much Tszyu has left.
I think Margarito's youth and size will be the determining factor here. I'm not as convinced as some with Margarito - but he has a good chin, good workrate and excellent power - plus massive for the weight.
Tszyu was and probably still is a master in the ring, but stylewise all wrong for Margarito. You need to be a mover to beat Margarito - Santos beat him and I'm sure Mayweather would and possibly Spinks. But Tszyu isn't hard to hit and isn't hard to find.

I think I said Pre Tszyu-Hattonnickd wrote:Margarito has size advantage, but please tell me who he has beaten to suggest he can utilise that advantage against a guy as good as Tszyu?
Margarito is a Bob Arum hype job.
Tszyu beats him if it happens.
Hatton has a youth advantage, but please tell me who he has beaten to suggest he can utilise that advantage against a guy as good as Tszyu?
Margarito is a allegedly hype job.
Tszyu beats him if it happens

You dont need to smother, you need to keep him off balance by landing your own shots, throw your shots faster than him (Hatton was faster than Tsyzu as were many of Tyszus opponents - hence him needing KOs to win a few times), be able to take Tyszus shots - Margarito may have a top class chin too, and be able to keep a tempo old Tyszu can't handle.nickd wrote:I don't see how Margarito could smother Tszyu and push him back like Hatton did. He is a lot slower of hand and foot than Hatton. And his workrate is nothing like Hatton's.
OHHH don't forget not only is Margarito younger, fitter, a divison or 2 bigger, he has a big reach advantage over Tyszu and maybe the biggest puncher Tyszus faced to date
This is a top class interesting match up anyway. Well done Arrum/Zoo/Margarito.
Margarito will not be faster than Tszyu he's as slow as molasses with those winging punches of his.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:You dont need to smother, you need to keep him off balance by landing your own shots, throw your shots faster than him (Hatton was faster than Tsyzu as were many of Tyszus opponents - hence him needing KOs to win a few times), be able to take Tyszus shots - Margarito may have a top class chin too, and be able to keep a tempo old Tyszu can't handle.nickd wrote:I don't see how Margarito could smother Tszyu and push him back like Hatton did. Yes but theres 6inches in difference in reach, so you better be faster because thats going to make a dfference, Tyszus defense also has never been his strength and against a puncher in Margarito whos much bigger is not a good thingnickd wrote:Margarito will not be faster than Tszyu he's as slow as molasses with those winging punches of his.Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:You dont need to smother, you need to keep him off balance by landing your own shots, throw your shots faster than him (Hatton was faster than Tsyzu as were many of Tyszus opponents - hence him needing KOs to win a few times), be able to take Tyszus shots - Margarito may have a top class chin too, and be able to keep a tempo old Tyszu can't handle.nickd wrote:I don't see how Margarito could smother Tszyu and push him back like Hatton did. Tszyu looked very weighted drained in the fight with Hatton i think at 147 he would have a real chance against any fighter. Hatton has 1 hell of a chin also im noy sold on Margarito's chin against big punchers.El Raincoat wrote:No if Hatton managed to get Tszyu to go backwards margarito would to. good analysis, except that this time Tszyu will be in with a taller fighter with a much longer reach and more power than he has faced before. Tszyu has always been hittable, but his own power has been such that he could take his opponents down with a few shots or keep them at bay.SticknMove wrote:Forcing Tszyu backwards isn't the key to beating the guy. Indeed, the best way to beat Tszyu is pressure (Urkal almost did it and Hatton succeeded, Vince Phillips also kept right on top of him) where he cannot generate power shots, but Margarito is younger, fresher, stronger, and a bigger hitter too. Tszyu has the experience, but that layoff won't have done him any favours.
Mind you, could be like Hopkins v Tarver great little one, beats a good big'un
