Never fell asleep during a UFC event

Post by ALI »

I fell asleep during the Wallin - Joshua ring walks, i watched the highlights this morning on YouTube. Looks like i did not miss much, but glad to see AJ made it look easy.

Falling asleep during boxing events seems to be a re-curring theme for me lately. Either its my age starting to show, or, boxing cards are just effing boring. I'm leaning towards it being the later. Watching 12 rounds of Bivol hitting a punching bag was mind numbing, then watching 12 rounds of Parker schooling the gangly looking Wilder was more than my senses could handle for one evening. It was lights out for me at that point.

I must say, i have never, ever, fallen asleep during a UFC event. Those cards are usually stacked of high quality, highly entertaining fights, with good commentary throughout and minimal breaks between each fight. The cards gain momentum as the evening progresses. Its great stuff IMO.

Boxing has a lot to learn in my opinion. It needs to get with the times. Serious changes are needed. We watched a card full of fights last night that, well, none of those fights were actually needed, by anyone, other than those making money out of it.

Now dont get me started on boxing press conferences

Went to bed after Parker. Much as I enjoyed his disciplined performance, that show died on its arse after a good start and the Dubois fun fight.

I think you’re being a bit harsh. I watched from 4-12 and enjoyed it.

I’d have loved to see Bivol go through the gears but it’s a shame he doesn’t have that one punch power or the finishing instinct.

Whilst Wilder barely threw a shot, I didn’t find that fight boring purely because you don’t know whether Wilder will land at any point.

UFC has plenty of dull fights but rather it last 39/47 minutes they, more often than not, last 17 minutes so are over with, and forgotten about, much quicker.

I think most of us on here watch cards in their entirety and I think we'd all agree there's been far worse over the years, it can get tiring on the eyes though watching TV that long definitely, think my eyes were heavy during Hrgovic

Why are people never happy?

I enjoyed the card. Didn’t watch the whole 8 hours.

But I’m glad we got it.

It was good to Kabayel take on the fight he did and he handled it really and got a nice win. Back in contention.

Was good to see Miller finally lose and for Dubois to get a nice name on his W column.

Was also nice to see Parker get a good win too. Wouldn’t call it the best career win based on where Wilder is at, but it’s still. Good name. Only 2 people have clean beat Wilder now.

I said this before..

Each one of those 8 fights is a ‘promoters headline’

Had it not been for this card.. each of these fights would have headlines their own card and we would have gotten a next to nothing undercard. Instead we got 8 headline fights all in one card. Even Jai-Zorro is not a main event calibre fight, but no doubt Hearn would have had that as a headliner if he could.

Bring on the next event.

That was my thinking for years. I only wish i had figured out sooner it is anything but that. The fighters are as skilled, if not more skilked, than boxers, due to the diverse skill set invloved. The key thing about the UFC is the best figjt the best, all the time, every time. Imagine a world where you wish for certain boxing matches to happen, and they get made with a year. Thats how it works in the UFC. Around 8 years ago i would not touch the sport with a barge pole, now i cant get enough of it. I'd say the key is getting to know some fighters, when you have a vested interested to see someone win, or just perform, it will snowball from there. Its the sport that just keeps on giving, a fight fans dream. Pisses all over boxing these days, sadly.

Plus you don't constantly get horrible decisions. The stench of corruption is so strong around boxing but you don't get that same feeling about the UFC, yet.

No it is not. Show me a pub fight where the fighters do roundhouse kicks or throw elbows.
