Hamed was my first thought. After such a big career he was outclassed by Barrera and then that was it. Had one more fight where he looked poor and then retired.

I also stand by naming BJS …
A lot more was expected of him than just a one sided defeat against the cheating mexican

There is no one who is was further up David’s a*se than me
I had what I considered realistic expectations of what he was going to and thus a totally one sided win against Audlley, a nightmare loss against kilt, and a ok win Against Chisora followed by 2 training camps and 2 pullouts for a Fury fight ….
Then a shot to bits David losing against Bellew told me David could achieved a lot more.,..
Whilst I’m not “in the know”
I can see quite clearly what’s in front of my face.
David Haye had a stellar career to be frank and earned good coin by carefully crafted matchmaking. (Delboy and Bellew etc).
At Cruiser he was excellent and at heavy he overachieved. Of course I know nothing.

tbf there was a LOT of hype around haye, many people saying he was gonna destroy klit and rid the division of boring giants etc. ended up giving his own very boring performance in a wide loss and never really sustained much momentum after that.
defo at hw i think he can qualify , clearly many ppl thought he was good enough to achieve more than he did
look at this, haye was favoured in the poll here and loads in the threads saying he'll blast klit out - the below is just a small sample. viewtopic.php?p=2937008&hilit=

And back then, Price was tall, by the time he retired he was average
Re: Expected more …
Haye did well for himself, I always thought he was more interested in being a celebrity than a serious sportsman though.
The David Beckham of boxing.

Re: Expected more …
Yeah, I thought that Haye's lateral movement, reflexes and power could potentially overwhelm Wlad... But we'll never know now because of that busted toe. I do feel a wee bit cheated that it wasn't a 100% David Haye going in to the biggest fight of his life.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 00:16 tbf there was a LOT of hype around haye, many people saying he was gonna destroy klit and rid the division of boring giants etc. ended up giving his own very boring performance in a wide loss and never really sustained much momentum after that.

Re: Expected more …
I always thought that Frankie was a Lightweight, but apparently he just couldn't make it and he looked small(ish) for a Light Welter, then reportedly he was struggling to make that weight too and he ended up at Welterweight were Kell Brook smashed the f out of him.
Re: Expected more …
David Price
At one point, he was staying active and knocking pretty good fighters out left, right and centre in a very short order... John McDermott, Sam Sexton, Audley Harrison, then Matt Skelton - and that was big KO wins within ten months (2012)... You just don't see that kind of activity today, not as British and Commonwealth title level...
Looking back, now that his career is over, it's still amazing to think that he never won the European belt... I really thought he was on his way up and up...

Re: Expected more …
Enzo Maccarinelli
Maybe a bit of a strange thing to say because he was a World Champion at Cruiserweight. But after he got flattened by The Hayemaker and David moved up to Heavyweight, I thought that Enzo (as one of the best fighters in that weight division at the time) would regain another World title...
But he spent time messing around jumping up to Heavyweight and then cutting weight down to Light Heavy - his career turned into a bit of a mess and he wasn't sure what direction he was going...
If I were his trainer or manager, I would just have kept him as Cruiserweight and not do all this weight jumping carry on. I suspect that it took a toll out of his body, but maybe I'm just being too kind to him...

Haye bigged his match up with Wlad big style. Severed heads etc. he knows how to sell a fight and earn.
It’s why he moved up in the first place. Valueev was a no brainer. Then make as much money as possible.
“I’m so disappointed David didn’t meet expectations “
Oh please

Haye always wanted to get in and out and earn as much money as possible. Can’t really blame him for talking big to get the money fights. He was very injury prone though and had long periods of inactivity due to them.si7dog7 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 11:14

Howard Eastman. I was totally convinced he'd win both his world title shots and was not shy about telling everyone about it
Was gutted when he came up short each time, especially with the nagging feeling he could have done better if really went for it.

Re: Expected more …
that's exactly what happened if someone thought haye was good enough to pull off results he never managed
not sure why it's so hard to grasp that someone can have a really good career and still fall short of someone's expectations - which may not have been the same as your expectations btw. it's all relative to what someone thought they could/would accomplish, simply saying 'oh but so and so won a title etc' misses the point.

That’s all for this thread. Joke!
