Not the biggest upsets by any stretch but the biggest 'shocks' are the ones where I'm really supporting the underdog.
For me, has to be Rhodes Vs Moore and Burns Vs Martinez.

Rhodes one was a shock for me too. One of my childhood faves so was good to see. Met him at Sheffield Ice Rink fireworks years ago, lovely chap, was with his daughters but still made time to talk to people and have a photo.Lenny Cravats wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 15:59 Not the biggest upsets by any stretch but the biggest 'shocks' are the ones where I'm really supporting the underdog.

This. I was convinced Rhodes was finished and thought Moore would batter him.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 16:03Rhodes one was a shock for me too. One of my childhood faves so was good to see. me too, it didn't help that when I watched him in the 90s he had a full head of hair, watching him with no hair in the noughties made me think he's done! He did well against Canelo too I thought.Stobbo wrote: ↑13 Mar 2024, 12:49This. I was even more shocked when Jason Matthews beat Rhodes
I thought that was a nailed-on win for Ryan, but Matthews annihilated him.

Re: What fight shocked you most?
The most shocked i ever recall being watching a fight Live was when Tarver knocked out Roy Jones in their 2nd fight.
Re: What fight shocked you most?
Top shock for me would be James "Buster" Douglas' colossal win over Mike Tyson

Yeah the Douglas fight was totally totally shocking at the time - I remember waking up in the morning, and seeing it on the news and being utterly incredulous.
Re: What fight shocked you most?
Going to say John Mugabi v Duane Thomas
That one surprised me.
Thomas hang on there that night to get it done late.
Did he have “Shock the World” on his gear?
Great fight from memory.

Enzo Mac v Lee Swaby, Enzo was only 19 but touted as next big thing. Swaby sparked him out on a BBC show. I followed Lee and watched a few of his sohws as a kickboxer and boxer it was such an upset.
That an Haye v Thompson, was shocked when Booth threw the towel in. Again a BBC fight.

I remember that conversation very well Spud. You still owe me for that betSpud wrote: ↑08 Mar 2024, 14:01 What fight shocked you the most, one of them fights that you didn’t remotely think of the loss?
I remember I went round Rhino’s house to watch Lewis v Rahman. I remember a couple of weeks before I was looking after Frank Maloney in London someone stopped Frank and I picked up on the following:
“Lenny is not going out to South Africa until the Monday, it should be a lot sooner than that so he can climitise”
“The training camp has been poor”
I didn’t think to tell Rhino until Lennox was sparked out, I then told Rhino who told me I was a **** for not telling him.
Another fight where I spoke to Clive Bernath, we were discussing klitschko v Sanders. Clive told me not to ignore him and that Corrie Sanders would definitely knock out Wladimir ..,. I told Clive to F off and stop being ridiculous.
Does the forum have stories they missed out on a fortune

Re: What fight shocked you most?
I had a sneaky feeling Rhodes would at least make a great fight with Moore, which i why I went that night (bloody glad I did, best fight i ever saw live). He’d made a nice steady ‘comeback’ in his previous 4 fights and I thought he’d do well with his right hook against the southpaw.Lenny Cravats wrote: ↑12 Mar 2024, 15:59 Not the biggest upsets by any stretch but the biggest 'shocks' are the ones where I'm really supporting the underdog.

Re: What fight shocked you most?
Then when I see them in the ring and Moore looked at least a weightclass bigger than Rhodes, I thought Moore early or he’d struggle late from draining because I swear he must have been 175+in the ring he looked fucken massive
Re: What fight shocked you most?
Mike Tyson losing to Holyfield and Danny Williams were shocks to me at the time.
Not on the scale of the shockwaves sent around the world when Douglas beat Tyson, but I was still very surprised both Evander & Danny stopped him.

Re: What fight shocked you most?
You’ll be even more shocked in a bit…
I do hope not though.
Re: What fight shocked you most?
Another fight that was a shock in terms, but not a shock that you would jump up in excitement, but Michael Murray beat Marcus Bott which was unexpected
Re: What fight shocked you most?
I thought Adrian Dodson was a serious player. I didn't see Winky Wright beating him.
Another one, not so well known, the first Dennis Berry vs Neil Sinclair fight. I'd never heard of Berry and he looked small next to Sinky. I didn't see Sinky coming up short that night, but he did.

Re: What fight shocked you most?
Not really sure on the scale of wow factor shocks but
Foreman v Moorer has to be a big upset.

Good call re. Dodson mate. Expected soooo much more if him. With the benefit of hindsight, Winky flew under the radar for way too long.Noxy wrote: ↑16 Mar 2024, 17:51 I thought Adrian Dodson was a serious player. I didn't see Winky Wright beating him.

Re: What fight shocked you most?
Yes, Wright was a lot better than I'd thought going into the Dodson fight. I followed his career with interest post-Dodson.Deserter wrote: ↑16 Mar 2024, 18:13Good call re. Dodson mate. Re: What fight shocked you most?
Dodson's potential was always overrated IMO.
Ronald Wright gave Dodson a hiding, but in fairness, Wright was an exceptional boxer with a dangerous jab.
