Re: Sons of champions (UK)
i loved foster jr's ko of a rampaging leva kirokosyan for the ebu title. one of the fights i can remember like yesterday. leva had badly bashed up scott lawton shortly before and was a solid fave if i recall. foster was under heavy pressure from the go but landed some crisp straight shots as kirk charged in with his bombs
id say foster had a pretty good career tbh

David Wilde, son of Jimmy, Britain’s greatest flyweight, did not achieve much. One who did was Brian London, son of Jack, both British heavyweight champions.

Jezzer Maggot has done considerably better than his father Ivor
Re: Sons of champions (UK)
Steve Collins Jnr certainly didn't reach the heights of his Dad.
His final fight was a loss to Nathan Quarless, cousin of Noel, the ever entertaining Scouse HW!

I think Shane Mcguigan was an Ulster Champion in the amateurs. Obviously he never turned over.
I'm America you had Ronald Hearns giving it a go.
Ross Minter had a set of bollocks on him and struck me as a nice chap

Re: Sons of champions (UK)
He sure did, 10 fights after the Naz fight. Ironically he won it against Naz's last opponent Calvo, after also losing an attempt at the same (EBU) title to another Naz opponent in Billy Hardy. He went on to lose it but fight for it again. He defended the EBU title twice and was fighting for titles up until his penultimate fight. What a fighter! Still looks super healthy and happy too.

Agree with you about Noel, deadpan. Great puncher + glass chin = entertainment at heavyweight.

Everything about that video is gold. Lots of faces from that era that fans of a certain vintage will recognise.

I had loads of big bets on Leva for the Lawton fight !margaret thatcher wrote: ↑26 Mar 2024, 20:22 i loved foster jr's ko of a rampaging leva kirokosyan for the ebu title. one of the fights i can remember like yesterday. leva had badly bashed up scott lawton shortly before and was a solid fave if i recall. foster was under heavy pressure from the go but landed some crisp straight shots as kirk charged in with his bombs

Re: Sons of champions (UK)
I guess there are loads of successful sons that we don't know because the dad's were nothing special ?
We notice the Jordi Cruyffs more than the Frank Lampard Jrs...

true, to use a usa example chad dawson's dad was 1-4 for example . robert guerrero's was 0-7 with 6 losses by ko
mediocre dads can have good kids, good dads can have mediocre kids

Re: Sons of champions (UK)
he did indeed with the CW at light middle. Challenged for so many other titles too, deserved his nickname fully.rhino222 wrote: ↑26 Mar 2024, 19:04 Steve the viking Foster had a reasonable career and i think won commonwealth title.
His son, also Steve, looked the absolute business in his early fights and was given the big push by sky (i think)... but he ended up having nothing more than a decent career. There were even more trinket belts around in those days.

Henry had 2 sons, Henry and John. https://www.theguardian.com/global/2011 ... r-obituary
I can't see any detail on George's offspring.

the history of the sport like this really intrigues me. I end up down so many rabbit holes! I'm a history graduate so I end up so far into it I forget what I was initially researching.

"I'm a history graduate" = loved history then had a panic attack after graduating thinking "what on earth is this useful for?!"
