Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
I remember Mosley landing a couple of really good right hands. One was especially flush and Floyd wobbled and had to hang on.
But, he never went down and in my view he didn’t come close to being knocked out.
He weathered a short and rough period and then proceeded to beat Mosley up with complete ease

Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
Yep. 2nd round. It was definitely the most I'd ever seen Floyd rocked by a punch, and then rounds 3 thru 12 he dominated, and picked apart Mosley, and wound up winning a lopsided decision.
I'd say the only other time I really ever saw Floyd buckled a little bit was one of them shots that Demarcus Corley got him with.
Not too many occasions where you ever saw Floyd noticeably hurt.

Floyd showed tremendous composure and focus. Mosley wasn't in his prime at that time but still a top ww. I'd have liked to see FMJ vs Bradley and Kahn but yeah, it is what it is.

He was also in trouble against Maidana in the first fight wasn't he? If I remember correctly I think Floyd once said that Emanuel Augustus was his toughest fight!!

maidana mauled floyd and won several rounds in their first fight, but never really hurt him that i can recall. more like swwarmed him with work rate in the first half. i think i had maidana up 4-2 at halfway, though he tired himself out and mostly got picked apart 2nd half, so ended up with floyd winning 7-5. it was a great effort and maidana got rewarded with only an md loss plus a big money rematch for it

Hmm should watch it again, it's been a long time. Didn't Maidana bite him in the rematchmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑23 May 2024, 07:52 maidana mauled floyd and won several rounds in their first fight, but never really hurt him that i can recall. more like swwarmed him with work rate in the first half. i think i had maidana up 4-2 at halfway, though he tired himself out and mostly got picked apart 2nd half, so ended up with floyd winning 7-5. it was a great effort and maidana got rewarded with only an md loss plus a big money rematch for it

Maidana fought the right way to fight a fighter like Floyd. Maidana was very awkward, aggressive and tough. Tough fight for Floyd. Maidana, Castillo, Oscar, Mosley and probably Judah were Floyd's toughest fights.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑23 May 2024, 07:52 maidana mauled floyd and won several rounds in their first fight, but never really hurt him that i can recall. more like swwarmed him with work rate in the first half. i think i had maidana up 4-2 at halfway, though he tired himself out and mostly got picked apart 2nd half, so ended up with floyd winning 7-5. it was a great effort and maidana got rewarded with only an md loss plus a big money rematch for it

A lot of guys will do that. Say somebody is their toughest fight who clearly wasn't.JackSprocket wrote: ↑23 May 2024, 07:36 He was also in trouble against Maidana in the first fight wasn't he? If I remember correctly I think Floyd once said that Emanuel Augustus was his toughest fight!!
He stopped Augustus.
Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
Mosley definitely wasn't one of his toughest fights. Other than that one moment where he rocked Floyd, he lost the fight decisively.apollo creed wrote: ↑23 May 2024, 11:08Maidana fought the right way to fight a fighter like Floyd. Judah gave him hell in the early going so he'd one of his tougher ones for sure.
2 guys that gave him a tough fight that always seem to get overlooked for doing so are Miguel Cotto and Victoriano Sosa. Floyd won those fights, but had his share of difficulty throughout the night.

One great moment by Mosley followed by a lopsided clear ud by Floyd

shane mosley was 38 on that night---floyd ducked him & ducked him until he was 38.
Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
True, kind of like what Fury was trying to do with Usyk. SSM had clearly shown to have lost his razor sharpness by the time FMJ gave him his shot. But for a brief segment of one round he nearly pulled it off.dickbelden wrote: ↑24 May 2024, 09:11 shane mosley was 38 on that night---floyd ducked him & ducked him until he was 38.
At least he was not entirely triggerless like he ended up being for the fights with Manny and Canelo.
Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
I remember him calling him out in 2003 actually. When he was still trying to break through.dickbelden wrote: ↑24 May 2024, 09:11 shane mosley was 38 on that night---floyd ducked him & ducked him until he was 38.
At that time Mosley wasn't a big enough name to get the attention of the Mosley's and De La Hoya's of the world. Once Floyd beat De La Hoya, now HE was the star, and in the driver's seat and it was his turn to call the shots.

Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
Fuk! I thought Mosley was around 30-33 y/o but not almost 40's. Floyd was a master of timing and cherrypicking.loldickbelden wrote: ↑24 May 2024, 09:11 shane mosley was 38 on that night---floyd ducked him & ducked him until he was 38.
So, after Cotto beat Mayorga and Margarito-good profile names, then FMJ jumped to make the fight? Where was FMJ when Cotto beat Mosley in 2007 ? Ricky Hatton ?

It's funny how for all the "He's a Cherry Picker" arguments you hear.apollo creed wrote: ↑24 May 2024, 13:21Fuk! I thought Mosley was around 30-33 y/o but not almost 40's. He's still got a deeper resume than anyone of his era except for maybe Pacquiao in terms of quality of opposition.

Re: Do you remember when Shane Mosley almost knocked Floyd Mayweather out?
Well yes, but you have to agree that he was a master of timing?! I mean c'mon, FMJ was very clever in having all the advantages on his side. Ok I could understand the narratives that he liked to build up the demand/hype or he didn't want to give Arum or Oscar big paydays but I think everybody would've loved to see FMJ fighting Cotto and then MP in 2008.gilgamesh wrote: ↑24 May 2024, 13:24It's funny how for all the "He's a Cherry Picker" arguments you hear.apollo creed wrote: ↑24 May 2024, 13:21Fuk!
