Cotto was the defending Middleweight Champion against Canelo.
Canelo fought Golovkin 3 times. Bitching that a guy ducked somebody that he fought 3 times makes you sound retarded.
I've just emphasised the circumstances under which Cotto won that belt. And Canelo didn't fight him for that belt at 160. They fought for it at a catchweight. It shouldn't have been sanctioned at that weight, but money talks.
If you can't see that Canelo waited Golovkin out until he was old, I don't know what to say to you.
And if you want me to be even close to impressed with the 3rd fight... Jeez come on, man?
- Oh Dear, here we go again with a Boxrec timeline being your friend that you have sadly neglected.
Cotto was the Boss, held the titles, and dictated the catchweight of 155, a weight that Sugar Ray Robinson was often at in his middlewt career.
He fought Khan next at 155 because Canelo is the epitome of a Prizefighter and Khan brings the $$$. The backdrop was TBETUE ducked Khan who had won his Peoples Poll as TBE TUE was prone to do just to screw fans. Canelo rubbing it in then fought Liam Smith for his 154 IBF title to have something of value while seeking the TBE TUE rematch at the full 154 limit and not the 152 lb catchwt and 165 rehydration limit their first fight was at.
TBE TUE wouldn't bite, so Canelo fought a very lucrative nontitle grudge fight against JCCJr at 164 lbs that had been brewing the whole of their careers. That being done, now it's GGG time that was a classic in strategies and actions that the average fan don't understand because of the way boxing deliberately hides the scoring until the end. They were both my favorite boxers, so without bias, GGG carried rounds on his relentless aggression and Canelo with his keeping GGG on the move to never let him set to punch while walking him into blistering counters. I had Canelo by a point and rewarded with a perfect split decision. Typical know nothing fans blame Canelo for Missy Byrds outrageous 118-110 card is more to the point of illogical fallacies of the average boxrec fan..
For the rematch, GGG slit his own throat by insisting Canelo be suspended for ghost nanograms of Clen consistent with local food contamination found in every corner of the earth. Canelo never tested at the FAIL level or above, but instead well below in infinitesimal nanograms, a scale beyond comprehension. A fired up Canelo set up at ring center to knock GGG back anytime he tried to come in for 9 straight rounds before settling in to keep him on the move again while walking him into meaty counters. This being Vegas and Canelo bigger than Vegas by now, the best he could do was winning a Majority Decision which was the score he lost to TBE TUE that set the usual suspects to howling on this site then, now, and forever more. They can never understand that boxing does it's business as the most nontransparent sport of note in the world and they got the perfect fans for the farce.
GGG is long gone and soon Canelo will be, but the usual suspects will still be here having their frothing strokes in between their bowels erupting an uproar...yup
