"Monster" Inoue teases potential next fight against Goodman
After retaining his undisputed super bantamweight championship with a sixth-round technical knockout of Luis Nery, Naoya Inoue indicated Monday his team will enter talks on a bout against Australian fighter Sam Goodman.
"As for my next move, I'd like to arrange a fight around September against this boxer Sam Goodman," the Japanese star said in a post-match interview, referring to the unbeaten 25-year-old, who was invited into the ring in front of a crowd of about 43,000 at Tokyo Dome.
Goodman is ranked No. 1 in the super bantamweight division by two of boxing's four major organizations.
"I've been mandatory for over a year. Either give up the belts or fight me. Let's get it on," Goodman said.
Inoue, nicknamed "Monster," extended his knockout streak to eight matches and improved to 27-0 with 24 knockouts.
