Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
I personally do not see how a fight between men with 2 minute rounds and 14 ounce gloves could ever be remotely seen as a pro contest when the standard has always been 3 minute rounds since 1865 and 10 ounce gloves being the standard since the 1980s.
It would be a disgrace for the website to count it as a pro fight. If that's the case then all these matches being held in Tijuana (ie, Bryant Pappas) ought to be listed as pro fights even though BoxRec sees them as unsanctioned.

Lots of pro bouts have used 2 minute rounds for men. 4 an 6 round bouts in England use 2 minute rounds, sometimes. Several of Willie Pastrano and Ralph Dupas fights used 2 minute rounds in Florida in the 1950's. In Canada, 2 minute rounds were used even in the early 80's.
The 14 ounce gloves are far more problematic.

Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
its quite interesting how formats and rules vary around the world
japan has started doing lots of 5 round fights i notice. north/south america have had a lot of 9 and 11 rounders.
some events have used overtime rounds to break a draw
i think it was italy or somewhere in europe where for a bit fights that are today majority draws (so 2 judges score draw, 1 scores it for fighter a) would be a win for fighter a
what counts as pro is a technicality that varies by area. of course texas doesnt usually do mens pro fights with 2 minutes and 14 ounce gloves, this is obviously special treatment, but they probably have wiggle room to shift things as they see fit

I guess as long as it's sanctioned, then it's gonna be listed.
I do agree with the fights and cards that not being listed, like the Tijuana ones.

It's sanctioned as a professional contest by a recognised sanctioning body so it's a professional fight. Sweden has 2 minute rounds for their pro bouts, I think. The rules have been set, it would be strange for BoxRec not to list it just because it doesn't adhere to the 3 minute norm for round length.

the major problem is the 14 ounce gloves---does anybody think this is OK?chinarich wrote: ↑14 Nov 2024, 06:53 It's sanctioned as a professional contest by a recognised sanctioning body so it's a professional fight. If Tyson some how wins this fight. Where will Boxrecs computer ratings rate him?

I'm from South America (Argentina) and I have never ever seen a 9 or 11 round fight. Actually, I haven't even heard anything like that. Not saying it doesn't exist, but at least here is not normal at all.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑13 Nov 2024, 21:52 north/south america have had a lot of 9 and 11 rounders.

It was sanctioned as a Pro Fight for marketing purposes. Exhibitions, no matter who's in them only do so well. The fact that this will be a fight that goes on their record, makes it infinitely more intriguing, and probably 3 to 4 times as profitable.
Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
I don't suspect this will enhance the ranking of either participant. A boost to the star power sure. A boost to the ranking? No.tiny_acres wrote: ↑14 Nov 2024, 13:00 If Tyson some how wins this fight. Where will Boxrecs computer ratings rate him?

Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
I have always wondered how this would effect scoring. In MMA they fight an odd number of rounds to reduce the amount of draws, there are still draws but you'd think less of them. I wonder how that would play out in boxing.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑14 Nov 2024, 14:28ya they happened regularly at least a couple years ago, 9 round fights too, some examples from dominican rep, panama, venezuela, nicargua, and argentinaCMCanavessi wrote: ↑14 Nov 2024, 14:12I'm from South America (Argentina) and I have never ever seen a 9 or 11 round fight. Tyson vs Paul - why are you recording it on their records?
Why is it that a bout that has 2 minute round length and they are wearing massive gloves is being sanctioned and counts on their record? Its pathetic and Boxrec should be making a stand against the fight not endorsing it.
Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
It was originally going to be an exhibition bout, but the promoter asked the Texas commission if it could be sanctioned with the two minute rounds and larger ounce gloves. The Texas commission allowed it to be sanctioned and therefore has to go on their official records.
Re: Tyson vs Paul - why are you recording it on their records?
Boxrec records santioned fights. What do you expect them to do? Hold a dubious fights commity meeting on all debatable fights? Or just record them for what they are...
What's the issue?

Re: Tyson vs Paul - why are you recording it on their records?
There are many fighters who box legit bouts with legit commissions and boxrec refuses to put those fights on their record, just because they have something against that commission. Yet this shit they allow.
Ashley Theophane, Danny Williams, Prince Patel have all had a few wins abroad that boxrec doesn’t include for no good reason. They need to mark this as an exhibition. Also add on the fact that Jake Paul was clearly taking it easy on him.

Boxrec doesn’t need to accept it. Even the fact that they accept the fights on Tommy Morrisons record when he was clearly HIV positive is a joke.RScarf1 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2024, 17:35 It was originally going to be an exhibition bout, but the promoter asked the Texas commission if it could be sanctioned with the two minute rounds and larger ounce gloves. Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
After a certain age they shouldn’t count fights on the record. Now Holyfield vs Belfort was a real fight with real punches thrown but it didn’t count on the record. Most of KSI’s fights haven’t counted as real pro fights. Why should Mike have a 7th loss on his record when he had a mangled knee, looked off color all week looking very ill, and is 58. I think the only chance of boxrec taking this off the record is if Mike tests positive for weed.
Re: why is boxrec.com listing the jake paul vs mike tyson fight ?
Does it really matter? Does that 1 more loss on Mike's record bring his historical standing down any? If it does...that's actually good. He's somebody that's been put on a pedestal that he didn't belong on for far too long honestly, but I don't think this hurts the way people see him any. The only thing it changes is how much more money is in his bank account, and given the amount that is, I'd say it was more than a worthwhile tradeoff.

Boxing is shit now. They might as well start putting WWE matches on if they're including this fake fight
