I searched for this by the year (through newspapers.com) I then searched through all the months of 1893. I searched both fighters Frank Childs & Hank Griffin neither came up with any results. I also looked for any mention in the book the world colored heavyweight championship. I can't find a single thing that suggest this fight ever happened. I even specifically look through california papers, and nothing
1893-04-01 Hank Griffin vs Frank Childs.
It shows a reference in the notes, but no california newspaper gives anything. You're welcome to try searching but I don't think this fight occurred. It's a shame I would very much like to read about it
