Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
Re: Round-by-Round: Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury II | PPV - 21 December 2024
I had Tyson winning 3 of the middle rounds, and all 3 judges gave those to Uysk, funny scorecards. And those were about the only rounds the judges agreed on!

You think he tried too hard?mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:25 Although I play my role as a fan boy on here, I am very realistic in real life on Tyson... I don't think he's been good since and during Wilder 3. The signing of the Del fight was a huge red flag and the Ngannou performance shocking. I believe he trained his hardest and tried his best with Usyk but it just wasn't enough. I thought he fought better in the first fight.
I mean first fight was split decision.
This one was unanimous.
Many said fury performed better today. Maybe cus he didn’t showboat and stayed focused.
But the fact that Usyk just matched him, tells you a lot.
No shame in losing to Usyk twice.

What did you score it tonight? Roughly, if you didn't keep count.mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:25 Although I play my role as a fan boy on here, I am very realistic in real life on Tyson... I felt Fury fought safer tonight and looked at the start like he might be fighting a better fight than last time but overall lost too many rounds.

Fury lost clearly.
Delighted that he has to go around crying about a robbery now while everyone with sense thinks he lost but the ones closest to him have to toe the line by feeding his ego.
Meanwhile everyone else knows he lost.
Clearly beaten twice by a "small cruiserweight".

actually right on the money, and far better than a score for fury. too bad for fury that usyk came on strong yet again rather than gassing
fury gave his best he's just not as good as usyk, 2-0 baby

He talks like he has only won by knockout... He has a couple of close decisions in his favour on. His record too

Usyk by a couple. Usyk wins the later stages of the round more often which helps.joshj909 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:30What did you score it tonight? I mean at least all 3 judges were consistent with the same score.
Even though the scorecards were all over the place

I sat comfortably thinking the fight was in the bag after 7 in the first fight. Didn't do that once tonight. He had some moments but never sustained them long enough to take over.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:30You think he tried too hard?mickey1975 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:25 Although I play my role as a fan boy on here, I am very realistic in real life on Tyson... Exactly. Part of the problem with this generation is that it is geared around being much bigger, heavier etc....when you don't need to be, to beat them or to be the best.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:21 If nothing else, I do hope this puts to rest the stupid idea that 'smaller' heavyweights wouldn't stand a chance against the super heavies of today.

being naturally bigger is an advantage (to a point, i dont think being 7'5 400 is necessarily a benefit), but it's just one among many factors at play.
usyk size wise......it's funny he's considered a small hw today. historically he's actually bigger than most. 6'3, 78 inch reach, still in shape around 220. when he was a cruiser he was about 210 on fight night, only after getting himself completely ripped.
by comparison, jack johnson, called a giant in his day, was 6 feet, with a 74 inch reach, weighing in the 180s-190s on fight daoy on ocassion. thats light heavyweight size today. some of his opponents were the size of welters today

The right man won. I had it 7-5 live but would need to watch it again. 8-4 didn't feel outrageous as some of the rounds were very close, especially in the first half of the fight.
I'd like to see Usyk, Fury and Joshua retire. Feels like the end of an era and time to hand over to the next gen.
I have a feeling all 3 will fight again though, at least once more.
Well done to Usyk, his work rate and fitness have proved too much for the big heavyweights.

Yeah but in fairness Johnson was literally over a century ago, pretty much a different sport then really. But plenty of heavies over the last 40-50 years would give today's giants lots of problems, if only for their ability to fight the distance without gassing. Peak Holyfield would be about as bad a matchup for Fury as I can imagine.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Dec 2024, 20:53 being naturally bigger is an advantage (to a point, i dont think being 7'5 400 is necessarily a benefit), but it's just one among many factors at play.
