Re: Joe Joyce - what next
he's 40. it's a steep decline all the way at that point - shouldn't be in the ring unless it's as the announcer!
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
Me too. He' a class act. And doesn't put an act on and call it charisma.SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 16:28I hope you are right Ezzard, I really like Joe, never rude, strong as an ox, some excellent stoppage wins, and extremely humble.Ezzard wrote: ↑28 Jan 2025, 05:56 Joe is still a top fighter. He can build himself up to another big pay day. If he still has the belief and is injury-free I can imagine there are many in the top 10 he can still defeat.
I guess the engine might not be there in the same way. But I would make him favourite against Parker, Dubois, Wardley.
I'd like to see him in with Joshua.
Would a duel with Big Fraze work? The ultimate crossroads fight?

I also remember when Chisora needed to retire... and Parker... and [insert name]...SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 16:28I hope you are right Ezzard, I really like Joe, never rude, strong as an ox, some excellent stoppage wins, and extremely humble.Ezzard wrote: ↑28 Jan 2025, 05:56 Joe is still a top fighter. I don't want anyone to be hurt long term. But you're a long time retired. The Chisora fight was close and I thought Joe won. Have no issue with the result, just sayin'...

Who wanted Parker to retire at 30 years old while still in the top 10 with a record of 30-3 with a single knockout loss?Ezzard wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 11:17I also remember when Chisora needed to retire... and Parker... and [insert name]...SeanBrennan wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 16:28I hope you are right Ezzard, I really like Joe, never rude, strong as an ox, some excellent stoppage wins, and extremely humble.Ezzard wrote: ↑28 Jan 2025, 05:56 Joe is still a top fighter. Re: Joe Joyce - what next
Parker was only young but had been through some tough fights, and seemed destined to lose every title shot while treading water the rest of the time. None of us thought he was done physically, just that he'd given the best account of himself and not quite made it.
But then Usyk's wins over AJ and Fury removed their mutual roadblock, and with Joyce out of the running he's suddenly back in the race.
Joyce is by far the unluckiest of the current crop. I'd love it if Usyk offered him the shot he so deserved a few years ago, but unless his matchmaking fortunes improve massively it's hard to see where he goes. If Dubois beats Parker he could try for the rematch as a stepping stone to Usyk, cos Dub might fancy the runback. But you have to think it'd take something special from Joyce to repeat.

He had been ill and was still shaking it off when he fought Joyce. Don't think he mentioned it/moaned about it but it's true and will have made a difference.mickey1975 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 08:54He is an ex world champion.Grilling Machine wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 18:27 Parker was only young but had been through some tough fights, and seemed destined to lose every title shot while treading water the rest of the time. Exactly. Great point. Zhang is huge. The Joe joyce Tyson parody quote (I think before the Zhang fight or at least one of the times he said it) “everyone got a plan til they hit me in the face and nothing happens” really bit him in the arse. It was like bad juju. Tempting fate. As well as cringe. I mean that was Zhangs plan and it worked pretty wellblack panther wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 14:31I feel like a normal sized human being could well die from a flush shot by Zhang. Joe is a massive lump himself but in a way thats his downfall: he relied on his chin way too much. I noticed when some iron chinned boxers finally get their chin cracked, they are never the same.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑29 Jan 2025, 03:40Something did happen. It’s called getting Zhanged. He's probably the only boxer in the World that will have that on his record.
That being said, the fact that he could've even lost to Chisora means that something must've happened. Either a bad injury, or something must've happened that significantly affected Joyce's ability to perform.
But yeah if you can't beat Chisora in 2024. I don't really know what's left for you. You're not even a Regional Champion really if you can't get by your Country's old Warhorse that almost everybody gets by.![]()

I’d watch it. I worry for Frazer’s head though as the damage he took made me wince in that second fight with Fabio.Ezzard wrote: ↑30 Jan 2025, 11:14Me too. He' a class act. I see Joyce back in the gym and training going by his recent Instagram posts, someone commented saying they thought he retired and Joyce replied no.
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
I love Joe.
I love that he's an artist & that he rode his legally blind Mum around parts of Thailand on a tandem bike.
I love his dry sense of humour & the fact that most underestimate his intelligence.
But he shouldn't be fighting anymore. It must be tough with him riding so high after stopping Parker but sliding doors & all that. It went Pete Tong & it's now over.
He should start a business doing bicycle tours around Thailand.

Re: Joe Joyce - what next
I’d love Joyce to retire. Was a very big Joyce fan. The big awkward unit is fun for me. That said if he wants to fight again he needs to be smart with who he picks.
Whyte is my favorite option. Big fight, and I think Joyce wins. Yoka grudge match if he beats gassiev but looks bad doing so… other than that….
Fracer Clarke is a coin toss that would be fun. Ortiz? Pulev? Allen? Rico? Wilder?
Ultimently I’d rather him retire. But, if he wants to fight again I hope he picks wisely.

If Wardley takes another shellacking in the rematch with Dubois and wants to fight on. Wardley vs Joyce would make sense.

My favourite Joe clip isn't any of his knockouts though, it's this clip here where everyone else is sitting all stony faced...

That’s similar to me with Usyk. My favourite moment of his was Bob Arum being interviewed after a fight and Usyk pops up behind him pulling a funny face. You hear the crowd cracking up.

there so many clips online..
he's just pure class..
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
I wouldn't mind him finally getting his big payday as Tyson Fury's warm up fight for Joshua. At least I'd have somebody to root for.
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
I wouldn't mind that, he deserves the pay day
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
Was looking at Usyk’s amateur record the other day, crazy that he fought both Joe Joyce and Shawn Porter. Beat Joyce and lost to Porter.

Carefully chosen small heavyweight without KO power. Joyce should win this, Olympic rematch with Yoka afterwards?Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑Yesterday, 07:16Announced: Former Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce returns against unbeaten Artem Suslenkov on the undercard of Murat Gassiev vs Tony Yoka on July 11th in Moscow.

How will he be allowed to fight in Moscow ?
