That may be the case. Post Olympics he was looking at acting, being a pro wrestler and obviously boxing and now he’s going to try and make it in finance.

In hindsight the fact he was looking at going down a different route probably meant his heart was no longer in boxing.

I still find it surprising that he didn’t fulfil his contract with Warren. I’d have thought he could have made good money in low risk fights for 2 years and still keep his signing on fee which he’ll almost certainly have to give the bulk back to FW.

The majority of routes into finance require years of study and qualifications. Hopefully he’s able to make a success of it.

No surprise, going on that terrible pro debut he was going nowhere fast. He basically torpedoed his own career there and then. Full credit to him being honest to himself and getting out now before he got hurt.

Terry Chapendama said on his live that Orie would walk into any of the major institutions right now. I know Terry is from that background.

Exactly. Maverick is correct that it's difficult for most people to get into that line of work but there's still an OBN and other preference picks as well as merit. Orie ticks almost all the boxes on merit IMO. He's bright, educated, achieved plenty in a different field, multicultural, bilingual, etc... why wouldn't a big corporate want him?

I’ve worked for and got qualified working for one of the big financial institutions. It’s extremely competitive to get in and you’re expected to work your nuts off and get paid not much, in comparison to what he’s probably making as an amateur, until you’re qualified and progressed.

He also has seemingly other things going on like modelling, wanting to be an actor etc.

There’s also big variation in jobs in finance. Does he want to be a trader? Advisor? Work in banking? Tax specialist? I’m sure he could get his foot in the door with all of them but I’d be surprised if he’s still doing it in say 5 years.

Hope I’m wrong though.

Terry's academic background is law and he works in AI, I'm sure he knows his onions, it is a very competitive world to get into the route Orie wants, I suspect his boxing pedigree will actually help him as if I was a recruiter I would feel benefit from an educated Olympian joining my business. Hope he does well, I am no expert, my background is housing and benchmarking so I may be talking out of my backside.

Frank has spoken.

“I respect his judgement, boxing is the toughest of sports, if your heart's not in it or you've changed your mind, then he's done the right thing,” Warren said of Orie’s decision. “He's done everything, he's had a brilliant amateur career, he's decided professional boxing is not for him, so I respect that and wish him all the best for the future, and he'll always be a guest at one of our shows.”

Warren's not daft, he knows the score. Better get rid of Orie now than invest time, effort and cash into flogging a dead horse that turns into the next Solomon Dacres.

He’s been in the news again.

Basically said, "I fear that I would have ended up being a world champion but a very depressed, sad and miserable world champion."

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/arti ... 70klg98gmo

"I wanted to pull out before the boxing exposed me," he tells BBC Sport.

"I turned pro for the money, I needed the money, only to realise that money gives you a little bit of happiness, it really does, but it gives you zero fulfilment. Nothing. You feel nothing."

"There was no plan B, there was no other thing, it was just tunnel vision to win that medal," he says.

"So the fact that I didn't magnified the feeling even more when my hand wasn't raised.

"I gave everything to the sport, I missed everything - happiness, birthdays, weddings, funerals, everything," he adds.

"Knowing that I could never achieve that again when I didn't have my hand raised, that was very sobering."

"I thought money [would] make me happy. I genuinely thought money is the answer to my emptiness," he says.

"I worked eight years to get that money and I got that money. I got a lot of it and I was predicted to earn a lot more of it in the future, only to realise that I felt emptier."

"I had to make a choice. I either stepped away when it was more or less too late - when in my third or fourth year I get knocked out by some up-and-coming guy who purely just wants it more than me," he says.

"Or I have the power in my hands to step away and walk away from the things that I could have got."
