There are thousands of people in those two places who would be only too glad to help Amir 'invest' his money. He should stay clear IMO.maverick23 wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 06:37If Khan is do this then he should just focus on shows in Dubai/Saudi where TV/bums on seats don’t mean as much.

Khan spent 10% of his purse days after on a new motor. That’s fine, but when you’ve had money and then lost it you might be a little wiser from the lesson.
He is thick.

This is the essence of it, though I would make a very important distinction between Dubai and Saudi - in the latter case the govt is spending big on top tier sporting events, including boxing. Whereas in Dubai's case I've yet to see the govt back a single major boxing event and those that have been staged by private promoters have invariably bombed.maverick23 wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 06:37 Fighters seem to think it’s easy to promote. In reality it’s very hard work, risky and very few make a success out of it.
Guys like Mick and Dennis Hobson probably haven’t made much money from boxing whilst the guys that have, like Frank, have still had problems (winding up companies, being shot etc).
If Khan is do this then he should just focus on shows in Dubai/Saudi where TV/bums on seats don’t mean as much.

I’m sure there but there are also people in those places that will think investing in Amir may be a good idea. He reportedly received £7m for fighting Billy Dib in Jeddah so he clearly has some fame/notoriety there.jimmystone wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 07:01There are thousands of people in those two places who would be only too glad to help Amir 'invest' his money. The Quigg/Munroe was the biggest show he did there I think - had Ryan Rhodes beaten by Rabchenko on the undercard plus Martin Murray,mickey1975 wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 15:45 I think he had a big show at The Velodrome with three European titles on.

Arena was far from full too. A cracking night though. Lucas Browne single punch KO of Hastings Rasani about 11.30pm with 20 people in the arena was a magical moment.

Is there a worse business to go into , at all levels, than boxing?
Most promoters struggle to break even. Most boxers are on ticket deals and lucky if they scrape £100 a fight. No wonder everyone jumped on the MTK bandwagon when it came along.
More lucrative organising white collar "charity" boxing. The well run orgs must make a killing off what the events - and I bet pay f all to the charities.

Two high ish profile london area fighters have somehow found their way into a small Hall show in Leeds in a couple of weeks. OhD and Archie Sharp.
Re: Amir Khan Eyes Promotional Path; Plans to Stage Shows in UK Next Year
No more MTK - should be a few fighters like Sharp and Davies free agents soon (unless *cough* they're not "free" to go where they wish)
Potential for Boxxer and Wasserman to pick a few names up?

BBC might roll the dice with Khan in some capacity.

Most boxers are at small hall level. It’s a total con job. At that level they may as well work for free.Frostieballs wrote: ↑31 May 2022, 19:06Don’t think it’s quite that bad…. He should be a manager if he wants to stay in the game. He has lost enough money on his banqueting hall he will only lose more here.

I was at a Micky helliett show a few years ago. All undefeated prospect v journeyman fights on the card. Looking back over their boxer s all the prospects had a few more similar fights / wins and their careers ebbed off. Not one of them went anywhere.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑01 Jun 2022, 02:56 at that level the journeymen taking all them losses in the ring are the real winners. making far more out of boxing than these dudes padding their record

It seems he could be tempted to return though, as speaking to iFL TV, Khan admitted he might well be up for coming out of retirement for a fight with Misfits Boxing founder KSI.
“Look, we can maybe make it happen. You know what I mean, we never know. Let’s have a chat on Monday.”
Re: Amir Khan Eyes Promotional Path; Plans to Stage Shows in UK Next Year
I can't think of any boxers that have had success promoting anyone other than themselves really.

Is he still a truly major promoter though? Do big names sign with him still?
I know he had Canelo when Canelo was younger. He had Ryan Garcia for a bit there, but the biggest names I associate with Golden Boy Promotions are De La Hoya himself and Bernard Hopkins.
