Former 140-pound title holder Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz plans to dominate reigning WBA 130-poubd champion Lamont Roach in the main event of a PBC pay-per-view on Saturday, December 6th at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. Tickets for the live event are on sale now through Ticketmaster.com. “Winning is the only option on December 6th,” said Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs). “Whether it’s by knockout or it goes to the judges, it must be decisive. I know that there’s no margin for error. We must prevail and we will do one round at a time. Everyone on my team is focused on the same goal, and that’s winning no matter what it costs.”
The 27 year-old Cruz will be opposed by the fast-rising Roach, who jumped up to the upper echelon of the sport earlier this year in giving two division champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis the toughest test of his career before leaving the ring with an unfairly officiated draw. While Cruz has his own history with Davis, and with much being made about the winner of this fight rematching Davis in the future, Cruz is only focused on the opponent who’ll be in his way on December 6th.
“We know we have a great opponent in front of us and we know that we can’t underestimate his boxing ability,” said Cruz. “We’re studying all of his past fights and making sure we know all the good and the bad. We’re getting stronger every day and that just makes me more and more confident that we’ll have our hand raised on December 6th.”
The Mexico City native has seen his popularity continue to rise in recent years, with the passionate Mexican fanbase showing their support for Cruz’s crowd-pleasing style and willingness to face the best. Cruz’s last fight in San Antonio came in 2020 as he delivered his breakout performance by knocking out Diego Magdaleno in round one in front of the city’s rabid boxing-loving population. Having won a world title and competed in high profile bouts since then, Cruz hopes to give an even bigger audience another memorable performance.
“There are going to be a lot of Mexican fans in San Antonio,” said Cruz. “Coming back to an area where you can see and feel the support of your people, even though you’re far from home, is a great feeling. Now that we’re back, we hope that the energy and enthusiasm from the fans is still there and has grown since I was last in the ring.”
While Cruz steps into the ring for the main event, the entire four-fight pay-per-view card is filled with high-stakes, 50-50 matchups that should leave fans on the edge of their seat throughout the night. For Cruz, he says he’s most looking forward to a fellow fighter who displays Mexican pride stepping into the ring.
“All of the undercard fights are very good, but if I had to pick a favorite it would be Jesus Ramos Jr. vs. Shane Mosley Jr. I think that’s going to be a very entertaining fight. Ramos and I are two Mexican warriors and we represent our people humbly and with dignity.”
With an opening in the sport for who will be the next Mexican superstar to take the mantle from Canelo Alvarez, Cruz knows that his name is often one of the first brought up. While he insists on taking his career one fight at a time, the idea of stepping into that historic position is something that motivates him every day leading up to December 6th.
“Being talked about as the next face of Mexican boxing when Canelo passes the torch motivates me in the best way,” said Cruz. “It makes me want to strive for perfection, but it doesn’t change my goal. As always, I want to make sure that the fans are the true winners on December 6th.”

“We’ve brought in guys that are tough and straight up relentless. We’ve been looking good against them in sparring. The fight is different than sparring, but it’s just about getting myself into that mentality and into the kill zone. I’ll be stepping into it for sure on December 6th.
“I’m here to show that my last fight wasn’t just one good night in the office. That’s what I’m gonna do every single time. I want to put on a show for the fans and prove that I’m of the caliber to headline events like this.
“Fans can expect a hell of a show. There’s a great undercard leading up to a banger of a main event. I promise it won’t be anything less than a spectacular fight.
“Every time I get in the ring my goal is to show everyone that I’m gonna go down in history as one of the best fighters of all time.
“We’re gonna see what opportunities open up in the ring. There are going to be a lot of aspects of my game that you’re gonna see. That’s gonna be the beauty of the night.
“I feel great to be headlining on pay-per-view for the second time. After this performance I look forward to doing many more.

“I don’t pay attention to the fans in the arena at all. Once I get into the ring there are minimal distractions for me. All I hear are the two corners and the ref. I’ve been in this situation before and I know how to handle it.”

“My activity this year will be a big advantage. I’ve just had to make adjustments. I didn’t have to gear up for training camp. We’ve been able to prepare exactly how we want to going into December 6th.

Lamont Roach heavier than Isaac Cruz for WBC 14-day weight check
Lamont Roach once again enters a new weight class as the bigger man.
The long-reigning WBA 130lbs titlist was more than three pounds heavier than Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz for their most recent weight check ahead of their December 6 meeting. Cruz’s WBC interim junior welterweight title will be at stake, a distinction which requires both boxers to provide the sanctioning body with weigh-in results at the 30-, 14- and 7-day marks.
Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs), registered at 148.2 lbs 14 days out from fight night, while Mexico City’s Cruz, 28-3-1 (18 KOs) checked in at 145lbs.
WBC officials reported that both boxers met the 14-day pre-weigh-in requirement, though the math ain’t mathing for Roach. The checkpoint weight two weeks out is meant to be no more than 5 percent above the contracted limit. In this case, both boxers should be 147lbs or less.
Roach’s weight is 1.2lbs above that mark, though there has never been a real penalty for being over the limit at this stage. Rather, it’s used as information to determine whether participants are safely shedding weight ahead of the final pre-fight weigh-in.
The next check will come this weekend, when Cruz and Roach are to weigh no more than 3 percent above the 140lbs limit – which will be rounded up to 145lbs. Both are, of course, then required to weigh 140lbs or less at next Friday’s weigh-in, ahead of their PBC on Prime Video Pay-Per-View headliner from Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The forthcoming 12-round secondary title fight will mark Roach’s debut at the weight.
It comes just nine months after he moved up from 130lbs to challenge WBA lightweight titlist Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Roach officially weighed 135lbs, more than a pound heavier than Davis, 30-0-1 (28 KOs), who weighed 133.8lbs on the eve of their March 1 PPV main event from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Davis has campaigned at lightweight on and off since 2019, while Roach has fought at 130lbs for more than 10 years prior to moving up in weight. The 30-year-old from the greater Washington D.C. area still delivered arguably the best performance of his career as he held the heavier-handed Davis to a 12-round, majority draw.
Roach enjoyed a 1.5in height advantage over Davis. He will carry greater physical edges in height and reach over the 5ft, 4in Cruz, a former lightweight contender who will enter his fifth consecutive fight at junior welterweight.
Cruz’s debut at the weight came in an 8th round knockout of Rolando “Rolly” Romero to win the WBA 140lbs title last March 30 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. He lost the belt to Jose “Rayo” Valenzuela in his first defense last August 3 in Los Angeles.

Janibek Alimkhanuly has delivered an adverse analytical finding for a performance-enhancing drug following a VADA test, sources tell @ringmagazine.
Janibek’s middleweight title unification vs. Erislandy Lara on Saturday is in serious jeopardy. Lara, boxing’s oldest male champion, could defend his WBA title vs. a different opponent.

Erislandy Lara turns focus to replacement Johan Gonzalez after Janibek Alimkhanuly fails PED test
Erislandy Lara is still moving forward by fighting on Saturday, just not in the significant three-belt title unification matchup that was originally scheduled.
Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) will defend his WBA middleweight belt against Johan Gonzalez (36-4, 33 KOs) it was announced Tuesday, hours after it was revealed that original opponent Janibek Alimkhanuly failed a VADA anti-doping test.
The Ring’s Mike Coppinger first reported Tuesday morning that Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs), the IBF and WBO middleweight champion, delivered an adverse analytical finding for the performance-enhancing drug Meldonium.
"I have always supported a clean sport. You know this well,” Alimkhanuly wrote on social media. "I was surprised when I read the news. VADA took the first test and said everything was clean. I have not made any changes to my vitamins. I don’t know what happened with the second test, so I requested a retest."
The WBO said an internal investigation is underway, and a show cause notice will be issued. Alimkhanuly has 10 days to request analysis of the "B" sample.
Meldonium, a banned substance by the World Anti-Doping Agency since 2016, "demonstrates an increase in endurance performance of athletes, improved rehabilitation after exercise, protection against stress, and enhanced activations of central nervous system functions," according to a 2015 study.
Lara vs. Gonzalez will take place at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a PBC on Prime Video PPV event headlined by the junior welterweight bout between Issac Cruz and Lamont Roach.
Lara, the sport’s oldest champion at 42, was looking to take on his most significant challenge in years by facing Alimkhanuly, The Ring’s No. 1 fighter at 160 pounds.
Lara has won his fair share of fights and also walked away with disputable decisions that were against him during his most notable matchups.
The highlights of Lara's resume include fights against: Paul Williams (highly disputable MD loss; 2011), Vanes Martirosyan (technical draw in 2012 and UD win in 2016), Austin Trout (UD win, 2013), Canelo Alvarez (SD loss; 2013), Jarrett Hurd (SD loss; 2018), Brian Castano (split draw; 2019) and Danny Garcia (KO 9; 2024).
During his middleweight run, Lara, a Cuban southpaw, has stoppage wins against lesser competition in Thomas LaManna, Gary O'Sullivan, Michael Zerafa and Garcia.
Gonzalez, a 34-year-old from Venezuela, is coming off a 10-round split decision win against Jarrett Hurd in March. He has alternated wins and losses over his last four fights, with the defeats coming against stiff competition Yoenis Tellez in October 2024 and Jesus Ramos in May 2024.

Lara vs. Gonzalez will take place at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a PBC on Prime Video PPV event headlined by the junior welterweight bout between Issac Cruz and Lamont Roach.
Lara, the sport’s oldest champion at 42, was looking to take on his most significant challenge in years by facing Alimkhanuly, The Ring’s No. 1 fighter at 160 pounds.
Lara has won his fair share of fights and also walked away with disputable decisions that were against him during his most notable matchups.
The highlights of Lara's resume include fights against: Paul Williams (highly disputable MD loss; 2011), Vanes Martirosyan (technical draw in 2012 and UD win in 2016), Austin Trout (UD win, 2013), Canelo Alvarez (SD loss; 2013), Jarrett Hurd (SD loss; 2018), Brian Castano (split draw; 2019) and Danny Garcia (KO 9; 2024).
During his middleweight run, Lara, a Cuban southpaw, has stoppage wins against lesser competition in Thomas LaManna, Gary O'Sullivan, Michael Zerafa and Garcia.
Gonzalez, a 34-year-old from Venezuela, is coming off a 10-round split decision win against Jarrett Hurd in March. He has alternated wins and losses over his last four fights, with the defeats coming against stiff competition Yoenis Tellez in October 2024 and Jesus Ramos in May 2024.

O'Shaquie Foster and Stephen Fulton originally struck a deal for their fight in June.
Six months later, after several false starts, the WBC junior lightweight champion Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) and the featherweight titleholder-turned-challenger Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) finally square off Saturday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, as part of a PBC on Prime Video PPV.
Foster and Fulton were originally supposed to fight August 16 on a Gervonta Davis-Lamont Roach Jr. rematch undercard that never came to be. They were then slotted for the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman undercard on October 25, but the event was cancelled two weeks prior when Fundora suffered a hand injury.
Alas, Foster and Fulton found a home with the card headlined by Isaac Cruz and Roach. After several press conferences and countless back-and-forth exchanges, Foster and Fulton can finally pull back from verbal sparring and focus on actually fighting.
"This last time when the fight got pushed back it definitely pissed me off because we were so close," Foster said during a press conference. "But it just gave me more time to prepare. I don't ever have problems with weight, so that wasn't affected. I'm just more prepared mentally and physically.
"I'm glad this fight is happening. It's supposed to have happened a couple of times. We're fighting, so there's animosity period. It's not personal, but he's trying to take something off my plate."
Fulton echoed those sentiments.
"I really wanted this fight to happen this year and did a couple of things to make sure it happened. The extra time might give me an advantage, but we'll see … I don’t have anything else to say to O’Shaquie, there's nothing to talk about, time to make it happen.

Fulton is the WBC featherweight titleholder, and stepping up to 130 pounds in hopes of becoming a three-division titleholder. Fulton beat Brandon Figueroa in a February rematch more convincingly than the first time to notch the 126-pound he carries.
It was a much more solid performance for Fulton than his fight against Carlos Castro in September 2024. In that fight – his first since being knocked out by Naoya Inoue in July 2023 – Fulton was dropped and fortunate to sneak by with a split decision win.
Foster, no stranger to cutting it close in his own contests, is fueling his fire with Fulton's fiery bravado.

Erislandy Lara never envisioned fighting this late in life.
All Lara wanted when he was young was to come to the United States and make money for his family by boxing on the biggest stages imaginable. That happened 11 years ago, when Lara faced Canelo Alvarez in a pay-per-view fight the Mexican icon narrowly won by split decision.
Lara lost only once since then, by split decision to Jarrett Hurd in an action-packed 154-pound championship clash in April 2018.
The Cuban has won a world title in a second division since Hurd defeated him. At 42, Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) is set to defend his WBA middleweight championship against Johan Gonzalez on Saturday night at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio.
Venezuela’s Gonzalez (36-4, 34 KOs) replaced Lara’s original opponent, IBF/WBO champ Janibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs), because Tuesday he tested positive for a banned, performance-enhancing substance.
Lara naturally is disappointed that he won’t get the chance to become a unified 160-pound champ. "The American Dream" is nevertheless thankful that he’ll still fight after spending the past couple months defying aging norms during another rigorous training camp.
“Forty-two is the new 32,” Lara told The Ring. “I feel just the same as I ever have. My preparation, my physical conditioning, everything, I have felt absolutely great. And I hope that you guys can see that on December 6th.”
Lara is the oldest active champion in boxing. The technically sound southpaw has altered his style somewhat in that he is less reliant on his legs than he was when he was in his physical prime.
However he fights, Lara attributes his longevity in this violent vocation to his habits in and out of the ring.
“I couldn’t say I imagined [fighting this long],” he said, “but I’m someone who is very conscientious about what I do in the gym. I have always tried in my career to not get hit that much. So, it’s something that happened organically and I’m happy to be feeling this great right now.”
The former WBA 154-pound champion also acknowledged that his relatively low level of activity has helped preserve him physically.
Lara has fought just six times since his split draw with then-unbeaten Argentinean Brian Castano in March 2019. Former junior welterweight and welterweight champ Danny Garcia was the only opponent of those six who wasn’t a huge underdog.

Lamont Roach respects how much heart Isaac Cruz has shown throughout his career.
Nonetheless, Roach believes Cruz’s courage will work against him Saturday in defending his WBC interim super lightweight title. Because Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) presses forward with little regard for what’s thrown back at him, Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) is confident he’ll catch him with impactful punches that will help him win convincingly.
“The advantage that I might have is the fact that he’s a little too tough,” Roach told The Ring. “He’s gonna take a lotta chances, run into a lotta shots, a lotta things that I think will be dangerous for him. I have a very watchful eye. I have pretty good defense. I damn sure have good timing. It all just trickles down to those shots. In between [his punches] or those shots after a big miss, those are the things that we’re gonna capitalize on.”
Despite defensive flaws that sometimes leave him vulnerable, Cruz’s granite chin has prevented him from getting knocked out in 31 fights.

Lamont Roach Jnr's title reign to end at start of Isaac Cruz fight
Lamont Roach Jnr’s current title status will end the moment the bell sounds for his next fight.
Boxing Scene has confirmed that the WBA will derecognize the boxer’s current 130lbs reign, effective Saturday evening. Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs), will enter the ring as the recognized WBA junior lightweight titleholder but then immediately lose that honor, regardless of the outcome from his challenge of WBC interim 140lbs titlist Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, 28-3-1 (18 KOs).
The scheduled 12-round secondary title fight between Roach and Cruz will headline a PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view event this Saturday from Frost Bank Center, home to the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
Once the fight is underway, England’s James “Jazza” Dickens – the current WBA interim 130lbs titlist – will be upgraded to full titleholder. The distinction is significant, as Dickens’ currently scheduled December 27 clash with Hayato Tsutsumi will now occur with the full WBA title at stake.
Meanwhile, Roach’s title stay will come to an end just two years after he dethroned Hector Garcia via split decision in their November 2023 meeting in Las Vegas.
Just one successful title defense was logged over that time. It came in a ninth-round knockout of undefeated challenger Feargal McCrory last June 28 in Roach’s Washington D.C. home region.
Roach’s only fight since then was his well-publicized March 1 majority draw with Gervonta “Tank” Davis in Brooklyn, New York. Their 12-round clash came with Davis’ WBA 135lbs title at stake, marking Roach’s first fight at the weight in more than a decade.
The aftermath was a strong indication that Roach was never going to return to 130lbs.
Talks of a rematch emerged, with Roach on board for an August 16 meeting in Las Vegas. The event was never announced, however, once Davis pulled the pin on those plans.
Roach was then offered the opportunity to once again move up in weight, this time to challenge for Cruz’s secondary title. He jumped at the chance, primarily to resume his career.
It remains to be seen if Roach will stick around at 140lbs, though it’s clear that his time is up at the division where he claimed his first major title. In that sense, the WBA belt he still holds is merely symbolic at this point, for the purpose of carrying through the promotion as a recognized titleholder.
The practice has become commonplace in recent years.
Most recently, the WBA permitted Terence Crawford to enter his September 13 showdown with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as its recognized 154lbs titleholder.
Crawford never made a defense of the title that he claimed last August, and it was clear that he didn’t have any intention to return to the weight. However, the WBA granted his request to retain the title until the bell sounded for his eventual win over Alvarez, upon which he claimed the undisputed 168lbs championship.
Jermell Charlo also remained the recognized undisputed 154lbs champion ahead of his own challenge of Alvarez in their September 2023 meeting. Lamont Roach Jnr’s current title status will end the moment the bell sounds for his next fight.
Boxing Scene has confirmed that the WBA will derecognize the boxer’s current 130lbs reign, effective Saturday evening. Roach, 25-1-2 (10 KOs), will enter the ring as the recognized WBA junior lightweight titleholder but then immediately lose that honor, regardless of the outcome from his challenge of WBC interim 140lbs titlist Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, 28-3-1 (18 KOs).
The scheduled 12-round secondary title fight between Roach and Cruz will headline a PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view event this Saturday from Frost Bank Center, home to the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.
Once the fight is underway, England’s James “Jazza” Dickens – the current WBA interim 130lbs titlist – will be upgraded to full titleholder. The distinction is significant, as Dickens’ currently scheduled December 27 clash with Hayato Tsutsumi will now occur with the full WBA title at stake.
Meanwhile, Roach’s title stay will come to an end just two years after he dethroned Hector Garcia via split decision in their November 2023 meeting in Las Vegas.
Just one successful title defense was logged over that time. It came in a ninth-round knockout of undefeated challenger Feargal McCrory last June 28 in Roach’s Washington D.C. home region.
Roach’s only fight since then was his well-publicized March 1 majority draw with Gervonta “Tank” Davis in Brooklyn, New York. Their 12-round clash came with Davis’ WBA 135lbs title at stake, marking Roach’s first fight at the weight in more than a decade.
The aftermath was a strong indication that Roach was never going to return to 130lbs.
Talks of a rematch emerged, with Roach on board for an August 16 meeting in Las Vegas. The event was never announced, however, once Davis pulled the pin on those plans.
Roach was then offered the opportunity to once again move up in weight, this time to challenge for Cruz’s secondary title. He jumped at the chance, primarily to resume his career.
It remains to be seen if Roach will stick around at 140lbs, though it’s clear that his time is up at the division where he claimed his first major title. In that sense, the WBA belt he still holds is merely symbolic at this point, for the purpose of carrying through the promotion as a recognized titleholder.
The practice has become commonplace in recent years.
Most recently, the WBA permitted Terence Crawford to enter his September 13 showdown with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as its recognized 154lbs titleholder.
Crawford never made a defense of the title that he claimed last August, and it was clear that he didn’t have any intention to return to the weight. However, the WBA granted his request to retain the title until the bell sounded for his eventual win over Alvarez, upon which he claimed the undisputed 168lbs championship.
Jermell Charlo also remained the recognized undisputed 154lbs champion ahead of his own challenge of Alvarez in their September 2023 meeting. Stephen Fulton’s move up in weight didn’t proceed as planned.
Fulton came in two pounds over the limit Friday for his 12-round, 130-pound title fight against O’Shaquie Foster. Fulton and Foster will still fight Saturday night at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, but Fulton cannot win the WBC super featherweight title from Foster.
If Foster loses, his WBC belt would become vacant.
Philadelphia’s Fulton (23-1, 8 KOs) still owns the WBC featherweight title and was supposed to attempt to become a three-weight champion. The 31-year-old Fulton acknowledged during the buildup toward his fight with Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) that he had difficulty squeezing down to the featherweight limit of 126 pounds.
Fulton is a former WBC/WBO 122-pound champion.
He beat Brandon Figueroa by unanimous decision in their 12-round rematch in his last fight February 1 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Fulton won the WBC featherweight title from Figueroa.
The Foster-Fulton fight will be part of Premier Boxing Champions’ pay-per-view undercard (8 p.m. ET; $74.99). Mexico’s Isaac Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) is scheduled to defend his WBC interim super lightweight championship against American Lamont Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) in the 12-round main event.
