Did Ray Robinson quit or not?
Did Ray Robinson quit or not?
In his quest for lightheavyweight title, Robinson "would" not continue due t severe heat. His opponent right questioned if was in the fridge. The heat affected them both.
Once and for for all, did he or did'nt he quit. I do not imagine what could have happened if the same thing was done by RJJ

Re: Did Ray Robinson quit or not?
Thanks Terence, I never doubted Ray's heart, but it always intrigued me as to whether he quit or not against Maxim. I know he was ahead on scorecards.Terence wrote:Ray did not quit, he erred, he lost bodily cohesion and could not continue. Maybe if he was Roid' Jones it would not have happened, no?
Heart is what Ray showed throughout his career against some really heartbreaking fighters. Maxim was a big, tough and solid guy who Ray took on in difficult circumstances. D-Man was a big, tough and solid guy for whom Jones citied difficult circumstances (D-Man being #1 and calling the shots) not to fight.

I guess you can say he quit but I agree with Terence in that he was very much unable to continue. From what I have seen and read, Robinson was as near unconsciousness as one could be. Robinson even went as far to say he thought he was dying. I feel this incident is used unfairly to betray Robinson as a quitter. It is a tough question to answer simply yes or no to.
I dont think the 'question' of this thread deserves to be answered!... anyone who knows a bit about boxing knows that Robinson was not a quitter!.... if you want to see dog watch Jones in the last fight with Tarver!... Robinson gave some of his bravest displays in his 40s when most of his skills were gone... but the heart never went!... Robinson never used enhancers either!..
. anyone thinking of comparing Robinson with Jones should be ashamed of themselves!... Ray was one of the all time best p4p while Jones to be frank was a dog in comparison...

You're becoming a stalker Dec...Decagon wrote:I remember reading about Robinson rubbing some cream over his body that helped him lose weight. Wouldn't that be an enhancer?silkov wrote:Robinson never used enhancers either!
Robinson wasnt a roid freak and never gave a cowardly display like Jones last 'effort' against Tarver.... but then I doubt you've seen many Robinson fights.... 8)
Well he certainly pissed around all over the ring giving an impersonation of a fighter... compare this to Rays effort against Fullmer in their 4th and last bout when Robinson was 42... he showed what a warrior is... just like Ali would do in his later years... Jones showed that he never was a warrior...Terence wrote:Did he piss in the neutral corner and try to mount the leg of Antonio? The question is: do you know what you're talking aobut or not?Neo wrote:The question is....did he quit or not?Ezzard wrote:If someone has offended you by questioning Jones' talents then I don't see what you've got to gain by a thread about Robinson. Maybe I'm misinterpreting you but it seems a bit juvenile to me.
And the answer is: you obviously don't.

Very well put!... here here!!... anyone with half a brain knows that being pulled out of a fight because you are delirious and on the point of total physical breakdown is not quitting!...pundit wrote:The question is: do you know what you're talking aobut or not?Neo wrote:The question is....did he quit or not?Ezzard wrote:If someone has offended you by questioning Jones' talents then I don't see what you've got to gain by a thread about Robinson. He won just about every round... he was beaten by the heat, in the last round he was staggering around the ring, not because of what Maxim was doing but because of heat stroke... if he hadnt been pulled out he would have died...
the ref collapsed in the 10th and had to be replaced... thats how hot it was...
