Good fighters or prospects that retired young.

Pedro Carrasco, who briefly held a lightweight belt in the early 1970s, quit at 29 with a record of 105-3-2. Another Spaniard of that era, former Olympian and Euro bantamweight champion Agustin Senin, quit at 26 while on top with a record of 42-0-1

Ernesto "El Ñato" Marcel of Panama retired at age 26. His last fight was a title defense of his WBA World Featherweight crown against the great Alexis Arguello of Nicaragua on February 16, 1974 in Panama City, Panama.
It was a great fight that Marcel won on points in 15 rounds. He promised his mother that the Arguello fight was going to be his last fight, and he did.
Marcel was a magnificent boxer. He also had a fight with the great Roberto Duran at featherweight in 1970. Duran won by 10th round TKO.
Should he be in the Hall of Fame? If Barry McGuigan is, why not him?
Despite having over 75 fights, two-time World Lightweight Champion Ismael Laguna, also from Panama retired at age 28 in 1971.

Colin Jones, three times welterweight title challenger, had his last fight at 25-years of age.

Remember Jones fighting Milt McCrory. Those were close fights. Wonder why he quit so early.

Think it was a combination of injuries and losing the desire to carry on.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026, 19:05 Remember Jones fighting Milt McCrory. Those were close fights. Wonder why he quit so early.

Dave Tiberi. Cleary beat James Toney, got shafted and never fought again.
Re: Good fighters or prospects that retired young.
Ray Mancini was 31 years old for his final bout with Greg Haugen.
Amazingly the final win of Mancini's career came at the age of 22. He fought a few more big fights after that, but never won again.

Also, he was 32, which outside the original's posters time frame ........ Such a shame, he got injured. In my opinion, one of the greatest "what ifs" in boxing history. I'd have loved to see him fight GGG and Canelo.

I can see how that would've been a particularly tragic one to deal with as not only did Kim die, but Kim's Fiance, Mother and I believe even the Referee from the bout committed Suicide.Controversial wrote: ↑12 Oct 2026, 03:44They say he was never the same after the Kim fight, I don’t think he ever came to terms with that.
Not sure if the Referee's suicide was as a result of the bout, but it surely didn't help. It is quite likely that Kim's death is one of the primary reasons for the intense grief that claimed the life of his Fiance and Mother. That is easily the most tragic Boxing match in the history of the sport.
Any fight where a man loses his life is tragic, but for so much horrific aftermath to come from 1 fight is really crazy. And of course it's the primary reason why 15 rounders soon went away.
