Pedro Carrasco, who briefly held a lightweight belt in the early 1970s, quit at 29 with a record of 105-3-2. Another Spaniard of that era, former Olympian and Euro bantamweight champion Agustin Senin, quit at 26 while on top with a record of 42-0-1

Ernesto "El Ñato" Marcel of Panama retired at age 26. His last fight was a title defense of his WBA World Featherweight crown against the great Alexis Arguello of Nicaragua on February 16, 1974 in Panama City, Panama.

It was a great fight that Marcel won on points in 15 rounds. He promised his mother that the Arguello fight was going to be his last fight, and he did.

Marcel was a magnificent boxer. He also had a fight with the great Roberto Duran at featherweight in 1970. Duran won by 10th round TKO.

Should he be in the Hall of Fame? If Barry McGuigan is, why not him?

Despite having over 75 fights, two-time World Lightweight Champion Ismael Laguna, also from Panama retired at age 28 in 1971.

Remember Jones fighting Milt McCrory. Those were close fights. Wonder why he quit so early.

Think it was a combination of injuries and losing the desire to carry on.
