when he was growing up, Muhammad Ali had a cousin who was a boxer but who "wasn't too successful"
(makes you wonder, had they been an amateur or pro ?)

I remember John Long, he was a decent player. The family must have been surprised that Julius wound up being a boxer.

1970s middleweight Mike Nixon was the brother-in-law of the Quarry brothers. Nixon, in case you don't know, was a well-known journeyman who may have qualified as a top-20 fighter for a short while.

Gratien Tonna, 1970s middleweight contender, is the cousin of Charlie Magri, who held the WBC flyweight belt.

I remember Mike Nixon well. Saw him fight many times. Held nice wins over Mike Rossman and Gert Steyn and should have had the win over David Love only for it to be turned into a ND. Was married to Wilma Quarry.
On the other hand, did not know Tonna and Magri were related.

Did you see Nixon vs Sugar Ray Seales? Ray took the nod, but I always wondered how competitive the action was.scartissue wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026, 11:52I remember Mike Nixon well. I did not but here is the write-up on the fight. Sounds fairly comfortable in Seales' favor.Joson wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026, 13:35Did you see Nixon vs Sugar Ray Seales?
