Why would he raise his right hand? Then get free hits.
Did he not learn anything from Dubois.
Take a knee.

I'm always facinated why so many fighters do that. God, you've gone down on your own accord you might as well act like you are hurt for beyond the 10, Sonny Liston vs Ali 2 style - the end of that fight, the actual ending, is the one reason why I think he didn't quit.Old bones Ian wrote: ↑11 Jul 2026, 20:07 He said that's enough while still standing, is that any different from a boxer knowingly rising just a split second after the ref counts to ten, or laying on ropes knowing if you don't throw back that's game over.
It's all a way of saying no mas , and to be fair he'd taken 10 rounds of punches so if he's had enough that's ok.

What next for Joyce?
A career as a name for up and comers to feast on and probable CTE.

Re: Joe Joyce - what next
It's definitely time for retirement now.
He had a reasonable boxing career.

probably an attempt to salvage some pride. to delude themselves or try to delude others into thinking they were ready to continue and werent legitimately stoppedstujones wrote: ↑12 Jul 2026, 06:54I'm always facinated why so many fighters do that. Re: Joe Joyce - what next
Better than reasonable, most fighters would kill to achieve what he did
Turned pro late, eat punches for dinner, was never going to be around too long, but the first change fight damaged him, and the 2nd ruined him.
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
I hope he will be okay, and he’s not like traditional boxers in that he started late and built up an education beforehand. I do though always worry about the mentality of fighters who pride themselves and are hyped around their strength and that “no one can stop them” Once they start to move backward , they are not often the same fighter (unless they completely reinvent themselves) - and seem more likely to struggle outside of the ring. eg Hatton, John Murray.
Joe was hyped as the juggernaut FFS, it’s must be such a shock to him to see him just being man handled and out strengthed.

It was sad to watch that fight. He should never have been put in harm’s way like that. I wonder how much he earned for going all the way over there to take a fearsome beating ? SugarHill will no doubt have trousered a fair proportion of whatever it was and Conlan too.
Joe needs people around him who care about his welfare not a pair of leeches on the make

Re: Joe Joyce - what next
Joes had a fantastic career by anyone’s standards. To talk shit about him on a little forum shows up the so called ‘fans’. I hope Joyce can now retire in peace and have his health and some wealth to enjoy, he deserves it.
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
He needs to retire or be retired,, god knows what his brain will be like in 10 years time with the amount of punches he took on his head

Has there been any comment from Joyce since defeat?
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
To be fair - it wasn't like he was taking a battering from pillar to post every minute of every round. He was being competitive, so it was certainly odd how the fight finished.
Very much different to the Hrgovic fight where he did take a battering.

But Suslenkov isn't anything special, a 14-0 fighter who hadn't beaten anyone of note and was giving away 50lbs, the old Joyce wouldn't have struggled like that.
Re: Joe Joyce - what next
I can't really see any good reason why Joyce would continue on, but who knows. He just gets hit too much to keep doing this it feels like.
At the very least they need to book him a fight against a weak punching guy with no chin who doesn't move much

I feel like he's got the personality to make really boring documentaries for daytime TV. He can put his fine arts degree to use.

Even the paid mouthpieces are saying it.

Joe Joyce Makes Decision On Boxing Future After Recent Defeat
Joe Joyce has faced plenty of calls to hang up his gloves and has now given an update on his future in boxing.
Joyce is now 40 years of age and has lost five of his last six fights. Most recently, he headed to Russia in July to take on Artem Suslenkov and was stopped in the 11th round.
Joyce is not hard to hit, and is a relatively slow fighter who often takes a lot of punishment in order to dish out his own, which is why many would prefer to see him now walk away from the sport.
However, speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, he insists he is not done yet.
“I would be open to having a conversation with everyone, see what’s out there, what’s about. I’m excited to get back in the ring. I had quite a tough test in Moscow. It was difficult to get a fight here in the UK, so I had to go there on rival turf. I’m excited to get back in the ring and fight someone exciting.”
The current world titles are held by Daniel Dubois, Murat Gassiev and Oleksandr Usyk, with Moses Itauma fighting Filip Hrgovic for the vacant IBF belt this weekend.
Joyce is without a promoter and is a long way off that level, so it’s hard to see where he would go if he were to return to the ring this year.

A bit worrying that Joyce can’t even remember why he pulled himself out of his last fight. I also listened to Joe’s recent short interview with Tris on boxing life stories pod and was quite concerned with some of his answers, he didn’t seem to be able to finish his thoughts or remember a bunch of things. Not good signs.

He only just got by Kash Ali however long ago that was. If he were to have a rematch he’d probably lose so he will have to get the message soon.

Joe has taken a huge number of flush hard shots in his career and that’s not including sparring. He’s a good guy and doesn’t live a flashy lifestyle…. I really hope he decides not to return.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑24 Aug 2026, 08:41 A bit worrying that Joyce can’t even remember why he pulled himself out of his last fight. It’s amazing how deluded some boxers can be about how much they’ve eroded….. and also not knowing what to do once they’ve retired.
EDIT - just watched the above video. It’s concerning. His eyes look glazed over like he’s not all there. Like someone whose over medicated.
His speech isn’t great, it’s never been but seems worse. The fact he says he can’t remember the fight is not a good sign. He described it stutteringly as a tough test… I mean as if he didn’t lose.
Also why’s he wearing a doughnut around his neck?

Talksport should be ashamed of themselves. Spencer Oliver was supporting his decision after previously saying he should retire. Really poor form.

He sure is. Been through tragedy in the ring and now just adds nothing to the sport. The epitome of a leech. Sad to see. The whole Talksport machine is like this.
They claim to be the voice and ask unfiltered questions yet not one about Kinahan.

If Joe retired now his brain might partially recover for another 20+ years of decent health. The guy's been brilliant to boxing and deserves looking out for.
