New book (in Spanish) about Ghana's Bob Allotey

Post by olij999 »

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know of a new book that I have come across while researching for my own book on Ghanaian fighters of the 1950s and 1960s.

It's called El Rey Efimero, by Spanish writer Jose Miguel Gala, and is about the boxing life of Bob Allotey (https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/16398), focusing particularly on Bob's time in Spain. It's a slim volume (70 pages), but excellent quality and full of great stories. Please note it is written in Spanish, so I have posted about it in the Boxeo Mundial forum as well, but I thought it may be of wider interest to other boxing fans, hence this post. For more details about the book, please see https://www.espabox.com/bob-allotey-el-rey-efimero/.

If you wish to purchase a copy, please email Jose Miguel Gala at [email protected] and he will explain things from there!

I wish I read Spanish; I'd love to read this book as boxing in Spain is a passion for me.

I'm reading the book as it happens. It's quite short but nevertheless full of info on Bob's fights and his life in Spain. A special interest for me as my Dad Alan Rudkin boxed Bob in 1967. Bob was a real globetrotter and fought the best fighters of his day, wonder how he'd get on today with all the titles about. I'd recommend it for anyone who speaks Spanish and I'm hoping to see more books on those fighters that campaigned in Spain at that time ie Mimoun Ben Ali.
For anyone that's interested there is full footage of Dad's bout with Bob on Youtube, shows what a tough game guy he was.
