yes, i thought you'd be a top bidder on this one. :TU: I'm looking at a top bid of a tenner.

think its quite a low estimate on the item actually, Bonhams think its between £3000 - £5000

I am very tempted by this.

Couple of questions on its authenticity:

- did the belts of that era even mention WBA - I know that it was for the vacant NBA title, but the reference to WBA seems bogus.
- http://www.squaredealboxing.com doesn't seem to exist....

If I was convinced it was real, given Max is a hero of mine, would happily part with a few grand for it.

Have called Bonhams, their boxing expert will call me tomorrow. I'll look in some of my old boxing books tonight, but I am fairly sure the old NBA belts made no reference to the WBA.

Terence wrote:NBA was the forerunner of the WBA.

They changed the name over in the early 1960's.
That's precisely why I think the belt is a forgery, as it has "WBA" and "NBA" engraved on it.

Will let you know.

I imagine that will go for a helluva lot more than 5 grand.

Bonhams called me back.

They now realise the belt is not the original but a reproduction (as I pointed out, it is not technically a reproduction as the original one wouldn't look like that).

They will either remove it or describe properly with a much lower reserve.

Shame.
