Tate won the vacant version I thought from Coetzee.
A few years later Coetzee beat Dokes for one of the alphabet titles no?

Yeh, thats right, Coetzee fought Weaver for the title as well... but his fight with Tate was for the vacant title...

Who cares about what?.... that its 27 years or that it was for the vacant title and not Coetzees title???...

I meant who cares about this subject... I saw the thread and opened it immediately, hoping for an inside story on Willie Pep and his rare stamp collection or something.

Co-incidently I just watched this fight,not much finesse but an exciting brawl. I could never figure how in some fights Weaver could take such a good shot, then in others he'd fall over as soon as he got clocked.

He was certainly an interesting fighter though, one of my favourite Heavyweights of the late 70's/80's
