World Cup October
Hector Ramos' actual weight is 141 but.... Our 132 pounder was overweight so in order to prevent him from competiting they asked the 141 (Hector) to move up to 152 and our 152 (andrade) to move up to 165. In my opinion, this was stupid! Moving up a weight class against the best boxers in the worlds isn't the smartest thing to do. Danny Garcia (who moved up to 141) ended up getting a RSCH and was suspended for 90 days after the first bout. He was unable to compete for the remainder of the tournament.

Art - are you saying that Terrence Crawford didn't make weight? Tsk. Tsk. I'm glad they didn't take him but I'm really against moving boxers out of their weight classes.
I can see why they didn't take a 112 after Rau'shee moved up to 119; Gary Russell got hurt at the PAL (119) and really didn't have a replacement; 125 - Mark Davis is in jail and I wonder why Sadam Ali didn't go instead of Luis Del Valle; Moving Garcia to 141 wasn't smart - he would have been better off at 141, leaving Hector and Demetrius where they belong. I know Danny Jacobs was also hurt at PAL (165) but there is Edwin Rodriguez. Too bad Yathomas Riley didn't go - I can't wait to see what he does in international competition.
BTW, according to the results, Danny Garcia did not get an "H" - just an RSC. If he was H'd and got a 90 day restriction, that means he was unconscious/unresponsive for two minutes or less - not good.
Hope to see you and Hector at one of the upcoming qualifiers in 2007. Going to be a very busy year!

just talked to Del Valle today. He told me the officials were really trying to get that russia-cuba finale going. He told me he lost the first fight but the scores didnt tell the true story. Every US fighter was having a hard time with the scoring.
Asked him about the RSC against the cuban he told me they were trading good shots in the first, he cought the cuban with a nice left hook and then the cuban got him with a nice right for an 8 count. He tells me he was allright and heard the score was 5-4 for the cuban so he kept the same pace, nothing changed as they were going toe to toe. Then less than a minute had passed and they stopped 24-4 so he wasnt credited with a single point after the 8 count.
