WTF? Earl vs M'baye for WBA lightwelter title?

Was juSt checking the schedule for the UK and it says m'baye is scheduled to defend his title against earl with audley and khan supporting. I think this is a tough ask for earl who should stay at lightweight. If he reproduces the form that he did against romanov he could defo win the european lightweight crown and maybe WBO.

I quite like this fight - at least with with the British angle its bound to get good treatment with ITV - Luckily the chief support fight (Amir Khan was on it?) on the Woods vs Johnson bill finished early - otherwise we wouldn't have got Balbi vs Mbaye.

So I hope this leads to big things for Mbaye on the TV front - plus it could work for a possible Earl vs Khan match maybe towards the end of the year.

Maybe FW has seen that, following his very very close bruising win over Ramirez, that Earl not going to go futher and is going to gear him to the "credible opponent" mode.

Another case of allegedly's quality matchmaking skills for all to see... a lightweight who has never fought at lightwelter and wasn't even ranked in the top 15 by the WBA at lightweight gets a title shot at a higher weight... HOW? How does this even get sanctioned?

Interesting. I wouldn't have picked Earl as Warren's sacrificial lamb. Nice exposure and a less than challenging fight for M'baye as Warren keeps him ticking over, and looking good ahead of a match with Khan in a year/18 months time.

I'd be disappointed for Earl if this went ahead. He put in the performance of his career to see off Romanov, thoroughly professional from start to finish. He should be building on that.

On the other hand Earl has been offered a genuine title crack, although its not at his natural weight he surely sees it as a better opportunity than WBU fights.

Earl's between a rock and a hard place with this fight. He really has no chance at all, but he is getting a shot at a bona fide world title (he could still be waiting this time next year for his WBO LW title shot) and it will almost certainly be his biggest ever payday. I just can't see how he can say no.

At least Frank has moved up in the world. Now he's getting guys shots at the 'reputable' WBA title as opposed to the WBU.

What a load of bollocks. Earl would get beaten at championship level against the top 135lb'ers, now he's getting a shot at 140, without even fighting there? Why do we bother? I don't blame Earl for taking this, if it's offered. But I really don't see him winning. Or even being that competitive, which is the real downer on the WBA. Still, what do you expect from people who currently have 3 champions at Cruiserweight?

Sorry if this is old news on another thread, but according to the schedule at any rate, it appears M'Baye-Earl is off. Earl will instead make a WBU lightweight defense on the same card (against http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=078853 ) and M'Baye is back to facing TBA.

You know what, maybe those spoil sports at the WBA didn't want to sanction this?

But what does Mbaye get? Not a Kotelnik rematch surely - Mbaye had a wee little scare versus Balbi (to win the WBA title), and he'll have a whole series of them if he takes on Kotelnik again. BN had him down to fight Kotelnik.
