Borderline top 10 I guess, the Spina win looks decent enough, but in the real world there's likely more than 10 fighters that'd beat him at supermiddle.
Joe could train one week and win this - in other words a typical SN bill. Look for Enzo v some no-name patsy on the undercard.
The fight does make good business sense for Calzaghe though: it's a recognition fight for him Stateside.
But Joe will hammer the living daylights out of him for as long as Pistol Pete remains standing.
Is Manfredo a top 10 super midde?

The short answer is no.
He's done enough to be considered round about top 15, but his achievements at this weight just don't warrant a higher placing. He certainly shouldn't be higher up than Tsypko or Veit, as the forum ratings have him.
And Deram, what are you on about? Just because yours is a minority view, doesn't make you right. David Ike has a minority view, for Gods sake. You can't penalise Manfredo for losing a five rounder on a TV show, when fighting below his natural weight, yet rank someone higher than him based largely on an amateur win over someone who now fights several weights below the one in question.

I'd agree about Veit, who I think has always been a little underrated (if a SM isn't quite up to the hype he'll find them out, just ask Juergen Braehmer).glittermonkey wrote:The short answer is no.

Tsypko I'd argue with. He was Ud'd by Chanet and got a gift against Brian Magee, neither of whom feature in anyone's top 15/20.
Tsypko, Chanet and Mkrtchian are all interchangeable IMO. They get a top 10 spot (lower end) & then lose their EBU title.Taki... wrote:I'd agree about Veit, who I think has always been a little underrated (if a SM isn't quite up to the hype he'll find them out, just ask Juergen Braehmer).glittermonkey wrote:The short answer is no.

Rankings shouldn't be influenced by poor officiating. Yes Magee did do enough to beat Tsypko, but the result went in Tsypko's favour. If that counts against Tsypko, then the Lacy result could quite easily be counted in his favour, because I thought it should have been a draw at the least. Also, before the Chanet fight Tyspko was on a good run including impressive performances against the likes of Adamu and Zaitsev. And I'm sure that at the time that they fought Magee was ranked fairly highly.
As I said, I think that Tsypko has done enough to be rated above Manfredo, admittedly not by too much though.

I think that is close to being accurate. Imo Manfredo is on the borderline of the top 15, somehwere between 13-17. 11 is a bit high but not that far off, as a lot of the unbeatens at 168 (such as Stieglitz) have yet to fight a live body (and no, a Berrios rematch isn't going to count).Taki... wrote:The official Boxrec forum member ratings have Manfredo at #11.

Jurgen Brahmer's record is patchy, he KO'd a lot of fighters on the way up and looked impressive to me stopping Henry Porras but as my good friend pointed out Omar Gonzalez took Brahmer 12 (Brahmer was on remand at the time!), remember Gonzalez's farcical folding in 1 versus Brian Magee? So was he ever the vaunted puncher his slate suggested? He didn't dent Andre Thysse either who is usually brave but outgunned when fighting at the highest level. I have Brahmer's last fighty versus former Robin Reid victim Francisco Mora so i may fish it out for a watch at some point.
Brahmer dropped Veit early but never really took the fight by the scruff of the neck and Veit showed balls to tough it out for a deserved win. Although thinking back i had it a draw on my card at the time...![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)
