All Golden Gloves has is name recognition. And bad officiating and breaking rules. I agree, Ringrat needs to stop wearing his necklace.

Ringrat - what weight class did you win in '82?

Hi Mario - thought it was you, but wasn't sure. Can definitely understand why your wear your Glove. I can also understand why the boxers wear their championship rings and belts with pride. How I feel about the GG is a totally separate issue from that of how the athletes feel when they win. :D

Ummm - slightly off topic - how in the heck did the State GG every get scheduled in Stockton???? It hasn't been outside of L.A. for 20+ years. Unbelievable.

Hello Mario.

Had no idea it was you. I"ve never met you but i know my brother hung out with you out there in Calif.

I'm sure we'll run into to each other one day.

Mario L. - I believe you and I have met in passing at some tournament(s) over the last 5 or 6 years. I saw your photo on NorCalBoxing.com in an article where you discussed the Rocky movies and know that we have met, but just can't remember where. It obviously wasn't at the National Golden Gloves based upon your statements - LOL. It may have been at a National J.O. or National Jr. GG tournament (or do you stay away from the Junior GG too).

I did see you at the US v. Ukraine dual. I was there supporting my friends Kenny Porter and Shawn Porter. I also yelled a lot of encouragement to the other US boxers. I hope to see you at some tournaments this year and I'll make sure to stop by and say hi.

Yes, It was probally the National JO's or USA Championships... I was one of the coach's for USA vs Ukraine, I was actually the head coach. I am good friends with the Porters, and Shawn is something special. Ken has done a real good job being a father... I coached Kenny Jr. in England and they are both very respectful kids... GO USA Boxing Team!!!

Yes, I agree that Kenny Sr. has done a good job with his sons - both inside and outside of the ring. They are fine young men who always show good sportsmanship. They would not be the ones to stay out all night and get sent home. I like to see kids like Shawn succeed.

I received my Pan Am Box-offs DVD's. USAB did a nice job with taping the bouts. I recommend that everyone order a copy so you can see some excellent boxing. There is not that much separating the top guys that is for sure.
