JOHN RAWLING, talking b#llocks yet again
Im sure there are any number of quotes we could bring up, but after Sprott iced Fraudley on saturday night Rawling shared his wise words with us all like the old sage he is "Oh i heard a lot of people in the build up to this fight saying 'Michael Sprott? Not much of a fight is it, he hasn't got a chance'.. well, (queue know-it-all patronising tone) THIS IS HEAVYWEIGHT BOXING FOLKS."
Maybe Rawling should re-read his own preview, Saturday morning in The Guardian:
"there seems little other conclusion to be reached than that Sprott might meet a similar fate to Williams"
and
"Harrison will have too much firepower and force a victory within nine rounds to set up a May showdown with the Commonwealth champion Matt Skelton to establish who can rightly claim to be Britain's best"
John Rawling: a Boxing Expert (after a fight has concluded)

I like Rawlings, preferred him on the radio though. Easy to shoot people down who are up there writing articles and commentating, we could pick holes or apparent contradictions in anyones work...
Rawling is a fan and I think quite sensible in what he says... No offence intended to you Overhand Right but I think you interpreting his tone as know-it-all and patronising might say more about you than him!

Im pointing out that he told us we were all wrong and 'this is heavyweight boxing folks' when in actual fact anybody who had read his own preview the morning of the fight would have come away thinking it was a mismatch and Audley would roll right over him.
Dont know how this says more about 'me' than it does Rawling but whatever mate.

I just took it as him making a point that the Heavyweight division is boxings most volatile and that fights can turn/end in a split second, not that he was in some way trying to claim the high ground?
I wasn't happy with my choice of words when I said it says more about you! What I was getting at is that you seem to have some kind of problem with Rawling that's all, I just took his comment as I feel he meant it, I think you're reading too much into it. As I said no offence intended.

That was my point. He avoided the fact that the people he was talking about included himself and his own write up.harrygreb wrote:rawling should have fessed up that it was himself primarily that gave sprott no chance, instead of passing it over to the mystical "..alot of people"
Goz, you're right i dont really like Herr Rawling, talks too much bollocks to me, along with his sidekick, the deranged Duke McKenzie. No offense to you either bud

Correct ... if he could get it right all the time, he could sit in the bookies and wouldn't need to work.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote:John Rawling is a very good journalist. So he called the fight wrong. He gave his opinion and it was wrong. Big deal.
I've done it a thousand times and will probably continue to do so.

dead right mr mcneilly.
i honestly can't see what people have against him. so what he called the fight wrong?
i also like the fact he had a pop at MMA but then i am personally biased because i can't bear MMA.
fair point about the EU title though, and it occurred to me at the time that it was being passed off as the proper one ...
as for mcguigan though - he is just a total hype machine and some of his wildly excitable claims are just embarrassing.

I don't have a problem with Rawling either (except he says "big right 'and" a bit too much).
However I think the point Overhand was making was not that he called the fight wrong, but that he called it wrong and then tried to sond all "sage" by saying people shouldn't have written Sprott off when he was just as guilty of doing so himself.
Seems a nice fella though.

one thing I've never liked about Barry is that he's a bag of nervous energy on TV.Hot Tub Man#1 wrote:dead right mr mcneilly.

As I understand it, this is because of Barry's severe crack habit....boxing suits him fine, as when the round is over, he has one minute to rush to the toilet and lick up the pipe quick style....viciousmaussa wrote:one thing I've never liked about Barry is that he's a bag of nervous energy on TV.Hot Tub Man#1 wrote:dead right mr mcneilly.

Then when the next round ends and he's coming down - he can rush back and pipe another one up.....
I think youre out of order saying that, ...just because you spend most of your life off your head doesnt mean everyone else is the same mate!... I agree with you to a certain extent, Rawling can come over as a mite condecending like we've never seen a boxing match before (did we need telling that this was heavyweight boxing!!) but I thought a lot of it was ITV trying to cover their embarrasment after hailing Audely following the Williams fight and then seeing him on his arse in this fight.overhand_right wrote:That was my point. Also to be fair to Duke and Rawling I think theyve improved somewhat since previous shows, less mistakes during commentary etc... I didnt find myself needing to turn the sound down this time...

Barry was a strong and exciting world champion who got out of the game with all his faculties intact.
Good on him......
