Warren, "Joe's mandatory is due"
'Joe's mandatory is due, so maybe we'll look at that,' said the promoter.
Get it on!
So the timing and money aren't right for Kessler. And Jermain may not want to cash his career in just yet...
Denis Inkin is a REAL contender for the crown having stopped Mario Veit and outclassed Emannuel Duma, a southpaw runner whom he efficiently broke down.
Inkin was cut by a head clash last time, but this was a good 7 or 8 weeks ago and he'll certainly be ok by July!
There are league between Inkin and the atrocious Manfredo. The Germans have few qualms about sending their fighters abroad to chance the world title...(Beyer-Woodhall, Veit-Calzaghe 1 as examples).
Inkin is a very precise, well balanced fighter and stands as a high quality mandatory. Certainly a more respectable WBO #1 than Veit, Mkrtchian,

I am a great fan of Joe Calzaghe. I think he's a terrific fighter, but it's high time he fought a real contender, a fighter who's a worthy challenger. No more boxing guys who have more celebruty appeal than boxing skills. Manfredo is nowhere near Joe's level as a boxer.
I get the feeling Calzaghe will not take on Froch. Carl is young, hungry and is improving. Plus he hits very hard. Froch would be a dangerous opponent for Calzaghe & Joe knows this.
It would be a shame if the fight does not happen.
Calzaghe really needs a few tune up fights before taking on a big name or fight in America, best not to rush him, too much too soon can ruin a fighter.pundit wrote:Inkin would be a respectable tune-up for a big fight. THE big fight.
If a Kessler can't be made this year (I'm not holding my breath on that one) then a Calzaghe - Froch fight would do for me.
These are the rankings on the WBO's site, so I assume Inkin is the mandatory?

He is WBO number 1 but not sure how it works with them.. may have to fight a eliminator with Bute the NO. 2 not sure though

Yeah the WBO have seemed to make it up as they go along in the past. Bute is fighting the IBF eliminator so a fight with Inkin won't happen. Maybe Inkin Froch as an eliminator would be good.josh fg wrote:He is WBO number 1 but not sure how it works with them.. may have to fight a eliminator with Bute the NO. 2 not sure though

As I saw mentioned somewhere along the line this past weekend, considering all the quality fighters which have passed through the super middleweight division at some point over the last ten years, and Calzaghe hasn't managed to fight any of them, it makes you wonder where the fault is. All of those fighters can't have been wanting to avoid Joe after all.steve689 wrote:Yawn...there will be no big fight soon or EVER. Calzaghe will play his career out beating up gimme opponents while claiming to be avoided. It's a boring subject now.
Could be made mandatory. Last one was Mario Veit (mid 2005), one before that was Mkrtchian (early 2004), they have to satisfy the WBO once in a while.Horse wrote:Is Inkin the mandatory challanger?
I'm glad Inkin is in at #1. Just watched his win over Veit again. Really solid fighter, lovely jab, covers ground efficiently, precise hitter and gutsy. Heck, I'll go out on a limb and say that's the best fight out there after Kessler & Mundine.
Thing is Calzaghe needs an opponent. Best thing is to get the #1 guy out the way, because otherwise you know what happens, he demands a shot when Calzaghe is doing something else.
Don't fck around with Universum. They'll pull one on you ala Calzaghe-Veit 2.
If a big fight falls through, they want to keep the WBO, because next up they equal Ottke's record, in 4 fights time they surpass Joe Louis, one more after that and they surpass that record, know what I mean?...
It's not like ALL of 'em he didn't fight. I'd go with, the # he missed is equal to the good ones he fought.PompeyScot wrote:As I saw mentioned somewhere along the line this past weekend, considering all the quality fighters which have passed through the super middleweight division at some point over the last ten years, and Calzaghe hasn't managed to fight any of them, it makes you wonder where the fault is. But they'll be wanting to collect sanctioning fees with the lucrative action at the Millennium. It was Warren himself who brought up Inkin, if Taylor or Kessler can't be made in July. Not sure team Calzaghe will be that happy with that match up and I think the problem with the WBO is that the promoters call the tune as the fighters make the title not the other way round. The WBC has more legitimacy in this.

Hey, you're forgetting Ring mag #7 Allan Green (he must be good, LOL), not to mention Anthony Hanshaw, a guy who made it to a ShoBox super middle final and drew with a decent Frenchman.pundit wrote:I order them Kessler - Mundine - Bute - Inkin - Froch. Bute and Mundine are probably the next best challengers.
btw, Bika just became a Ring top 10 super middle after Manfredo was hurriedly deleted. All we need now is Evans Ashira to unseat Eastman...
