Eastern Trials - Cocoa Beach, Florida

Post by boxmel »

Disappointing 120 boxers and the hotel is 30 minutes away from the venue. Todays program consists of 2 bouts in one ring and 3 bouts in the second ring. Hope this isn't the precursor for the Western Trials. Kinda tells me that we don't need 3 regional trials (Mid, East & Western).

The turnout would have been better under the old Olympic Trials selection procedures. Many boxers don't want to go the the regional trials, then the US Championships a few weeks later and then still have to make it to the quarter-finals to get to the Olympic Trials.

Check the USA Boxing web site and see if they have anything posted. I got my numbers info directly from one of the officials who is there.

5 bouts for the first day. That is a low turnout. MW trials had 10 bouts. We'll see how the Eastern Trials go from here.

Cocoa not Cocoa Beach

Post by holeymoley99 »

I plan to head down Wednesday night as the venue is about 10 miles from my house. I have read a few places that it is in Cocoa Beach but it is actually in Cocoa which is two towns over (Merritt Island where I grew up is between the two cities).

A few local fighters are expected to do well (Richard Grant,Robert Ramos and Robert Elegele).

With 120 total entries, I don't see it going very far.

If there are at least 8 skilled boxers per class (except for 106 & 112 which usually much less), then there will be some good competition.
