Who does get near Asiku though?

He'd do better than McKeever and Callaghan even If he lost though.
If my memory is correct didnt Simpson floor Mathews? Simpson couldnt floor Callaghan. I wouldnt be so sure Mathews would do better than Mckeever or Callaghan. Just saw wbo ratings, cant believe that Asiku not even rated in top 15 and yet Mathews is No.10 :o . Asiku has boxed and pushed real close geniune world class fighters in Hussien and St Clair and beat good fighters. Just dont understand the politics of this sport sometimes

Well, it doesnt matter so much how good you are but whose your manager/promoter.... imagine if Warren promoted Asiku?.... he would probably be world champ by now...

Maybe Warren should go into WWF promoting then... if he cant make a fighter like Asiku an attraction then he's no damn good as a promoter...

Just because Duran was winning doesn't justify the tactics.
The fact is that Duran hit Buchanan low as Ken leaned back on the ropes... it was a mistake imo, Duran was well in control of the fight why would he suddenly use foul tactics... Duran is often called 'dirty' but name some other instants when he hit a fighter low or used foul tactics, the truth is he didnt... he was rough, but being rough is different from being 'dirty' and using fouls to win...
Justifying Duran's tactics again?

There are some accidentals I agree, but theres only so many times you can say that.

Styles are different, Simpson's not much of a puncher. Yes he scored a flash knockdown over Derry than was out boxed for the majority Including the dirty fighting.

Matthews Is much better than McKeever and Callaghan, even If Jackson stopped him It wouldn't be a one round job. Matthews has proven to be better than McKeever and Callaghan.

I mostly suggested Asiku because of posters saying how good he Is and since I'm a Matthews fan, I would like to see Derry step up.

He can't be written off because of one fight. People aren't writing McDonnell off when he was stopped on the DLH under card.

I'm not justifiying Duran at all as he doesnt need justifying... the truth is that Buchanan was going to lose to Roberto anyway and the foul is always brought up as an excuse really.... watch the fight, the punch goes low as Buchanan leans back on the ropes... accidential imo... Ken stayed down because he thought he might win by disq... as for Durans other fights tell me when he hit anyone else low or anything like that?... the man was not a dirty fighter....

Matthews is dirty and would be exposed if he moved away from his WBU safety net. I had Simpson beating him 115-112. If ever there was an argument against titles like the WBU masquerading as genuine world crowns being bad for the game then Derry Matthews is proof.

Exactly, Simpson's not much of a puncher but he floored Mathews, Asiku I believe is a much harder puncher than Simpson, Asiku has put world ranked fighters on the floor so my guess is Asiku would be too powerful & too strong for Mathews and to be honest Mathews hasnt proved to be a million miles ahead of Mckeever or Callaghan has he. I dont believe he's anywhere near world class, but never say never, he wouldnt be the first & and wouldnt be the last fighter to prove doubters wrong

I don't think you can know that. He might have been in real agony. Buchanan was never bothered all night - except that Duran was a frigging octopus in there. I know Duran was one of the greats but count me among those who are not so in love with him.

that's what I hate about boxing over here. The promoters choose the fussy, sicknote, spoiled guys. The cynics who wouldn't mind fighting Mickey Mouse if it meant packing the MEN. Who have no shame defending a super middle title v a stumpy light middle. The others who want to retire at 30, win the world title then quit, and all the other crap.

Guys like Asiku should be the future of the sport in this country. Fighters like him have all the physical tools, awesome stamina/toughness and have been ducked so much that they'd never take things for granted the way all our "stars" inevitably do.

I wish UK boxing was like in Germany. Where a fight is a draw so long as you have an Aremnian/Turk/Russian/Cuban in for some kind of title! That way we'd see Munyai, Jackson, Ajose very frequently and I'm pretty sure get pushed into world title fights.

Munyai is nearly world class already, yet he is on the undercard of a man he convincingly beat twice... figures... he could be touted as a great fighter, someone to really excite viewers, plus when i spoke to him after the second power fight he seemed like a really nice bloke (apart from the chelsea scarf lol).

i hope his career goes as far as his talent, if businessmen dont ruin it for him...

it's tragic, the Munyai situation. Even Power's fans like him. I heard that they mobbed Munyai after the 2nd fight.

Why doesn't Maloney get bold, say something like "This kid is way better than Amir Khan", make some waves? Or what of Olusegun...'The best light welter to grace these shores since Hatton'? I doubt many would disagree after brutalising Pryce & Numbembe.

I know Maloney's doing well with Haye, but Haye wants to retire by 30.

If Hennessey can take Junior Witter to a world title, after embarrassing himself v Judah, bloody hell...

Yes, and rather ironic that Vann is the man who is constantly warning fighters before fights 'no naughties with the head!'
...I wonder if Vann would have been so lenient if it had been Simpson committing the fouls??......
I thought Simpson had done more than enough to win the fight... the scoring was a joke.... like the refereeing...
Agree entirely!! and I think Matthews will be watched more closely in future fights by refs.

Derry's not near world class yet but he has the potential to be If he doesn't waste It I reckon.

He's beaten Foster and Simpson who are better than McKeever so he's proven to be better than McKeever and Callaghan.

But Mckeever and Callaghan are hardly close to world class themselves are they??... the best Derry could do is reach Europeon class and I think that even that is out of reach for him and with his tactics he wouldnt last 5 rounds abroad before being disqualified... he's barely British class in reality...

i said Buchanan was only bothered due to Duran acting like an octopus. ie being relentlessly grabbed and cuffed and smothered. duran smothering his own shots, too. this was not the clean punching duran of the 2nd and 3rd Dejesus fights. and why would i say it if i hadn't seen it?

sounds like you're just trying to defend a raw ugly hard to watch performance which could easily have been a DQ loss for Duran.

So whos not barely British class?

Morris has a flat footed style similar to Foster, Simpson was beaten by Foster, Matthews beat both of them and Morris gets a cut loss to Simpson so he's the best on the domestic level.

European and world level at Feather Isn't exactly strong and the best moved to Super Feather except for Chris John.

He's not always a dirty fighter, people are judging so much on the Simpson fight.

I'll have to take this one up with you. I've seen Derry fight three times now, two live, and on all three he wasn’t an angel, let’s put it that way.

I saw him fight John McKay at the Everton Sports Centre and he laid the nut in a far few times, he was close to DQ. He also swore at McKay, which earn’t him another reprimand.

A very, very dirty fight.

I then saw him against a friend of mine, Steve 'Stumpy' Chinnock, for the English title in Nottingham. He blatantly hit Stevie low a few times and got away with it.

We only got highlights against Foster Jnr - nothing dirty in that fight.

Then, of course, the Simpson foul-fest. No wonder he is known as 'Dirty Derry'.

Yeah and you only saw him being dirty In 3 live fights not all of them.

I understand why he's dubbed Dirty Derry though. But he can do more than dirty fighting.

He can work off the jab and move well on his feet using his height and reach at Featherweight quite well. He was worryingly out jabbed a little by Simpson when he shouldn't of been though too.

derry has the skill to surprise many doubters on this site. but he has to clean it up, he really does. silkov is basing everything on derry's dubious tactics which is clearly not the whole story with the talented scouser.

duran was never rougher than in his fight with buchanan. i'd say his tactics were rough and close to the borderline rough sometimes straying into questionable areas, just the kind of thing to upset the superb ability of ken. result = a legend is born.

I wouldn't have thought so, even when Derry wasn't doing the dirty stuff he looked clueless and just kept lunging in and holding Simpson. Okay so he beat Steve Foster but he was no great shakes either, this WBU belt gives certain fighters a misguided sense of grandeur. Matthews-Foster should have been taking place for a Northern Area title or the likes not something resembling a "world" title.

I was thinking, should we do a 'bring back Asiku' campaign. You know, like the 'free Deidre' one? Shall we put his picture on milk bottles, etc

Jackson is stranded in Australia at the moment. He was due to fight in Rugby in April but has had problems getting a visa to comeback over here.

Hopefully that will be sorted by June and he will be out in Coventry in July.

He went flat-footed versus Simpson to show people he was not just a fancy mover with a jab. This statement is nonsense and argue all you like but I've watched Andy fight big guys and believe me he does not have clay feet. Your logic is ITVism at its best.
He was similar Vs Monroe too but that was a bit more of a fight than when he out boxed Simpson.

So It's only nonsense to you because you don't share that opinion.

You saying my logic Is ITVism Is just plain nonsense and shows a lack of respect for my opinion.
