Even if we disregard advancements in sports, Lyle, Norton and Shavers don't appear to be any more accomplished than Byrd's best opponnents.

Chris Byrd by a close boring decision, because he's faster and harder to hit than anyone Young ever fought.

I think I'd go with Byrd. He had more fighting heart than Young. I never saw Byrd duck under the ropes.
