I wouldn't exactly say two world heavyweight title reigns, inluding unification, is a case of Maloney being unable to "manage it" with Lennox Lewis! He was there until very near the end.boxingchat wrote:Other than Benn and Watson those fights were in all in the 90's. Who is a serious challenger to him being Britain's major promoter now? Maloney, twice ex-employee and couldn't manage it with Lennox Lewis and millions in Eliades and Levitts ill-gotten gains. Hennessy Sports, Froch, who else, Witter? Can't even stage Witter V Harris because TV won't finance it. Hobson? On what, the wages Hatton pay's him for doing his donkey work. Waterman, with his Jewish business mentality, didn't leave to miss out of the share of big pie did he? He left becasue he didn't want half of nothing and an expensive ego trip to boot? Clinton Woods, oh I forgot him, but then again, after turning down Calzaghe so has everyone else.Goz wrote:Nothing do do with unhealthy allegedly allegedly allegedly obsessions. I would think if Warren dissaperared off the face of the earth tomorrow most of us would happily never speak his name again but like it or not he is the major promoter in British boxing (or at least was) for the last 15 odd years.
So the changes in our sport do have much to do with him...
Many of us gre up watching the 70's and 80's Middleweights in their great domestic clashes, the Benn/Eubank/Watson fights etc...
But he couldn't even put together Hatton-Witter, now it's Haye-Enzo and I'm sure there are other examples of Warren just protecting his revenue and not taking any risks, basically not giving a toss what he serves up to the paying public.
Warren couldn't put together Witter V Hatton simply because Hatton and his Dad didn't want to do it period and Warren took the public flak off them. I am sure this will all come out very, very shortly. Haye has been made a public offer twice but declined. Horse to water and all that!
Why hasn't Hatton fought Witter now then, he's WBC Champion now and brings something to the table, so why hasn't he done it? Answers on a postcard to Fight Academy's bank manager please!
If you lot actually took a step back, were more positive and asked civilised questions then you may get straight answers with factual back up.
It might even open your eyes!
As for Haye, the whole thing with Maccarinelli in the New Year was a case of he-said-she-said and I have no comment because the whole thing was tedious. But as for the second public offer, we saw straight through that one - with a WBC shot guaranteed, he was hardly going to accept a WBO shot, was he??

The Hatton issue is one where I do take Warren's side on, it's been obvious for a while that the simple matter is that Hatton and his ego just doesn't want any part of Witter because, simply, he's got the style and attitude to give Hatton a fight and, in my opinion, beat him. Any obstacles which Hatton has put up for the fight Witter has answered, and still Hatton thinks of other issues to make the fight impossible. Watch Hatton chase Witter all of a sudden if he loses to Castillo this weekend...boxingchat wrote:

As for Haye though, I don't think those offers were ever going to be taken up. As discussed previously, Haye is lining up Mormeck, and then looking to move up to heavyweight, so was never going to go for Enzo at the current time (much like Khan wouldn't fight Murray when offerd the spot).
As for Warren, if he didn't spout off so much rubbish then he wouldn't get so much back. Warren has been good for boxing, and can be again, but he just seems to be adopting too much of a safety first attitude a lot of the time, and he could at least show some respect for other fighters whose only crime seems t be that they didn't sign with him.

QUESTION 1: Will the Earl-y Withdrawal recieve any mention in this Sunday's NOTW?
On the other hand you do ask if Maloney and the rest can take the sport forwards, they could if you made fights with their fighters more often.
That goes for all the promoters. Why build-up guys only to fail to get them shots or see them fail on the world-stage. Surely the promoters would get more prestige by squaring their lads off and seeing who has the best stable.
Forget the Contender UK Vs USA and make the Contender UK Vs UK.
Why does Warren alway's have to make the fights with their guy's. Haven't seen too mnay serious offers coming the other way.

Hennessy informed the WBC in April that a deal was in place but has not been able, for whatever reason to do the fight.
The WBC now appear to have given up on him and have called for purse offers on Friday 29th.
Where do you put it? Boring Witter, no crowd appeal against an unreliable and equally as non-attractive Harris - York Hall? Then it doesn't pay.
This is exactly the fight purse offers were designed for to establish it's true value and worth. Only problem is, if it goes for peanuts and remember, Hennessy's hand has been shown already, he can't do it, Witter will maybe end up fighting for less than he agreed and maybe in the US with no decent TV revenue.
Can't blame Hennessy on this one, I think TV have let him and Witter down.
Mind you if it was in my back garden, I'd close the curtains.
Hatton V Witter does 25k all day long and I know Witter would accomodate money-wise as he really wants the job. Hatton is deprived the UK fans for too long and the public should demand it by boycotting his fights until it is made.
Hatton say's he wants the best and Witter, as WBC Champion, has more than earned the right for the fight.
As strange as it may seem if Witter/Hennessy got into bed with Warren/Ma'Baye then Hatton could, I feel be embarrassed into it.

Re: Boxingchats Question Time
Promoter v Promoter show would be great TV. The promoters could even have their say between fights like some of the TV talent shows.Terry D wrote:Frank gets the ball-rolling and shows them who the bigger man is.boxingchat wrote:Terry D wrote: To be fair to old BC he did condemn Earl on another strand and say it is bad for boxing, agreeing with Wellington at the same time. He then saves boxing in the UK, rides into Boxrec on a donkey and then gets crucifed once the fight-standard dips. That is the nature of being a boxing fan.
Seriously I have nothing against Warren, he seems funny and engaging when relaxed and was awesome on 'Operation Good Guys'. If he worked with UK promoters more often we would get quality fights and your guys might move up the ratings quicker after winning some quality fights.
The promoters should, at the least, do their business behind closed-doors as the public mud-slinging is a bit passe.
Why not give a promoter Vs promoter show a try, make decent enough matches without risking the big guns (no pun intended) and see how it works out.

Phenomenal-Nutrition wrote:BOXINGCHAP whats the current situation with Calazage-Kessler and what percentage chance would you give of us seeing the fight before the end of the year?
Also which opponents seem likely for Amir Khan after Limmond assuming he wins?
Could Amir Khan make 130lbs for a 1 off title fight and would SN encourage him to fight for a title at 130?
Also which of SNs 126-135lb fighters look likely to square off in the near future and how does SN see those rivalries turning out?
Thanks for any replys Boxingchat

2. Earl Maybe.
3. IMO No Chance
4. Cook, Matthews, Foster, Morris, Mitchell, Burns etc all great possibilities and all very interesting fights If I had to say who would come out on top? At the moment. Cook probably.
Any New News On Castillo's Weight?
Is he still struggling?
Or is the whole thing a red herring?
