It's only a little annoying because this happens so often. People state 'facts' about white collar boxing and it only becomes clear that these facts were invented if/when they're challenged. If by getting hurt you meant getting a broken nose or put on your arse then i misunderstood you. Risks like that are unavoidable in white collar boxing and i'd be surprised if anyone getting into it would think otherwise. I thought you meant more seriously hurt.1southpaw wrote:
there's no point getting out your pram over this but ive seen a lot of these fellas being trained by so called trainers for these shows and from what ive seen someone's gonna get hurt it dosen't matter if you use a 16oz glove or 10oz glove it's all about being able to take a shot ive seen pro's get put over by 16oz gloves in sparring when i used to do a bit i had my nose broke in sparring by 16oz gloves so dont try to tell me that it's safer for people to take punches to the head if it lands propperly it's going to do some damage
By control i mean bouts are matched carefully and reffed to make ensure no-one is going to take a beating or get humiliated. The reffing of these bouts is very different to a pro boxing match.
Pro & ex pro fighters occasionally come along and spar the guys at Cityboxer so they have no illusions about the gulf between white collar boxing and the real thing and get a greater appreciation for it. Not such a bad thing.
I'm sure that there are outfits that label themselves as white collar boxing who don't have a clue but the only ones i know about are staffed by ex boxers or pro/am trainers for extra cash on top of their regular work.
You say you've done a bit and would like to spar some of these guys but then wouldn't you be judged as of these no ability white collar boxers who shouldn't be allowed in a ring?
You have to judge each on it's own merits. The worst & most dangerous 'white collar' boxing event i've ever seen was James Cracknell the rower almost getting decapitated by an ex amateur boxer with a 2 stone weight advantage - as sanctioned by the ABA i believe...
