I recognise Earl as Britain's No 1 Lightweight based on achievements and wins.

Hope Murray steps up.

Earl? I wouldn't rank him as the #1 Brit. His best domestic wins are a bit lucky.

I like Thaxton as the #1. Isn't Murray trying to step up too soon? Looks like Murray is suited to lightweight, and I think he's the best British prospect of the lot. Well schooled, improving, tidy and good with the presure (incl wicked body shots).

Then again, he's 21-0 and it's probably time to move up. I don't think he'd do a Meager, i.e. get walloped.

Still, it would have been good to see him in that Canadian fight on ShoBox.

I like Murray's style and his attitude a lot. Maybe a tune up or two would be in order, before Thaxton?

Can Murray do better than Meager?

Technically, John's better than Meager. But shouldn't he maybe fight a Meager or a Danny Hunt next? Before going in deep?

If he times it well, he could do Thaxton like Hatton did. Thaxton's difficult, fit & a good fighter, but he has had bad injuries and can lose composure under fire.

Often, Murray boxed very much within himself. I belive he is trying out different moves. Sky seem to think he's not doing anything.

Thaxton-Murray would be a fantastic tear-up, but to be honest I can only see one winner (Britains #1) Thaxton, but fair play to Murray for wanting the fight.

I don't see Earl as Britain's number one whoever said that. His British title wins are long gone and he doesnt appear to be in the picture anymore as a genuine threat. Thaxton i think is the best at the weight and a fight with Murray would be terrific, Khan i imagine will pick off the shopworn Earl next.

Earls win over Romanov is better than anyone Thaxtons beat BUT Thaxton maybe the better and may beat Earl. Would we expect Thaxton to beat Katsidis? Probably not.

Thaxton may beat Earl I agree but he won't be No 1 unless he beats Earl or Ealr retires.

Because he got 2 HUGE gifts against Vanzie to win/defend the title or because he lost to Burns or because he chose to vacate the British title or because he just got destroyed against Katsidis?

Do you reckon Earl could ever repeat that win over Romanov? ie with Romanov keeping active, winning 2x EBU fights via KO, etc

OOPS, replied to the wrong post...

Even though you weren't replying to me NO. Romanov is better now and he was rusty against Earl, Earl is probably past his best and probably couldn't take the same punnishment again. I actually scored the first fight to Romanov.

a case could be made for Yuri winning that fight. Yuri landed the better shots, whereas Earl controlled the pace over the first 2/3

Earl was unbelievable that night - never seen him like that. But I actually thimk Yuri ruined him in those last 5 rounds where he just hammered him with massive shots.

Not seen the Vanzie fights but Ramanov beat Vanzie and Earl has a win over Ramanov.

Hardly destroyed he was competitive against Kat and would of won If the fight went late I reckon.

I think Earl's problem Is his defence Is too reliant on a tight covered up guard.

We'd have more talent If our fighters had more flexible guards.

John Murray needs to fight some with a pulse before he starts calling out Jon Thaxton he would give him a beating that he deserves.

Maybe Murray should start with Earl, and then Thaxton afterward.

I also scored the fight for Romanov(by one round) and I feel if he had been active he probably would have stopped Earl , you could almost see Yuri shedding the rust before our eyes as he got better as the fight progressed . The fight was a toss up though and I don't think anyone could have a problem with somone scoring it for either fighter or scoring a draw .
