Dawson v Solopov
Dawson v Solopov
BoxRec says Daniel Dawson fights Anton Solopov 31/8/07.
This is a great match up between two good fighters! Not sure who to pick at this stage but if I had to make a choice I would probaly go with "The Rock". Any chance the winner might face Geale???
Thoughts?

Boxrec has Kostya Tszyu as a Russian. Citizenship isn't a factor as far as boxrec is concerned.Brute wrote:Dawson is defending the PABA Junior Middleweight title. Does Solopov qualify as Australian? Boxrec has him as a Russian citizen and he seems to have fought in Europe more than here.
I'd take Dawson, I think the rock is under rated, I know he has faced a fairly poor level of competition, which is common if you want to fight a lot in WA, but I think he has some very good talents. I'd take Dawson on points. I think it's ben k who will disagree as he thinks Dawson is fairly ordinary. Sorry if I'm wrong Ben, I know it's one of the west australians on the forum that doesn't rate Dawson.
Dawson v Geale was scheduled earlier in the year, but was called off I can't remember why... Or I never knew why????
I think its a 50/50 fight, Dawson has looked good in some of his fights but Solopov is a decent boxer and may be able to beat him if he can stay on the outside. Dawson definently has the power to stop Anton so i think its a really interesting fight.walford wrote:Boxrec has Kostya Tszyu as a Russian. I would like to see the winner face Geale so we really know who is the best around this weight.
There is also Shannon Taylor around there weight so there are a few decent matchups to be made.

Sultan is a big puncher and came at Solopov swinging wild early in the fight. Solpov's team practiced for it but unfortunately for Anton, he moved straight back and got caught by a wild right hand.Brute wrote:Does anybody know what happened the first time Solopov fought Dondon Sultan? Losing to someone of Sultan's calibre on a first round KO does not sound too good. Does Anton suffer from Chinnus Mundinus?
Solopov is a heavy handed kind of puncher. Not one punch type power like Kostya but thumping power. He's very strong physically and I think he's too much for Dawson.
No.... I just don't think we should claim them as "ours"unless they renounce their citizenship of their previous country. The great Rusian swimmer Alexander Popov spent most of his training time in Australia for years but always swam for Russia.Marlin wrote:Have you got a problem with fighters born in other countries moving to Australia and making it their home?Brute wrote:On 1st September Solopov's old gym mate Victor Oganov dismembers, er.. fights Zuniga for the IBO Supermiddleweight title. Can we claim him too?
I have seen daniel in sparring an have also sparred him in him eading up to this fight (as a southpaw i sparr him quite abit lately) he is looking very sharp an is extremely fit ive tried to keep up with him in training an he jst keeps going i think it will be a tough fight for daniel but i beleive he is also happy for the oppertunity to fight a name fighter

the geale team didnt want geale to fight dawson... i think this is a problem with aussie boxing atm the fighters dont fight the top fighters on their divisions as they want to make sure they keep the 0

Are you a pro boxer mate?p4p1 wrote:I have seen daniel in sparring an have also sparred him in him eading up to this fight (as a southpaw i sparr him quite abit lately) he is looking very sharp an is extremely fit ive tried to keep up with him in training an he jst keeps going i think it will be a tough fight for daniel but i beleive he is also happy for the oppertunity to fight a name fighter
If so I reckon I can narrow it down to Jeremy Allan or at a stretch maybe even Steven Wills...
Geale has a fight date for 12 October with no opponent named. With a six week break from tonight the winner of this fight may be his opponent.p4p1 wrote:Dawson v Geale was scheduled earlier in the year, but was called off I can't remember why... Or I never knew why????

Makes sense.

Would be a good fight though!
I heard that Dawson pulled out of the fight with Geale, Im not sure if it was right as he fought in a kickboxing fight a few weeks after he was scheduled to fight Geale.p4p1 wrote:Dawson v Geale was scheduled earlier in the year, but was called off I can't remember why... Or I never knew why????

It was a goodBrute wrote:Did anyone here see the fight? Sounds like an anticlimax after all the anticipation.
Fox decided we would rather see David Tua serve up the Mexican Heavyweight Champion from the other week (nice double left hook, Dave..but).
double left hook, Tua still has the pop to beat anyone at heavy if he lands.
True, but Montana did not help his own cause by standing in front of him. I would like to see Tua fight Cameron next to see just who is the best heavy in New Zealand.ben k wrote:It was a goodBrute wrote:Did anyone here see the fight? Sounds like an anticlimax after all the anticipation.
