Dawson v Solopov

Post by Marlin »

BoxRec says Daniel Dawson fights Anton Solopov 31/8/07.

This is a great match up between two good fighters! Not sure who to pick at this stage but if I had to make a choice I would probaly go with "The Rock". Any chance the winner might face Geale???

Thoughts?

Good matchup if it comes off.
I think this is what we need in this country competitive fights between our better fighters.
Its a 50/50 fight in my opinion and should be very close.

Dawson is defending the PABA Junior Middleweight title. Does Solopov qualify as Australian? Boxrec has him as a Russian citizen and he seems to have fought in Europe more than here.

Boxrec has Kostya Tszyu as a Russian. Citizenship isn't a factor as far as boxrec is concerned.

I'd take Dawson, I think the rock is under rated, I know he has faced a fairly poor level of competition, which is common if you want to fight a lot in WA, but I think he has some very good talents. I'd take Dawson on points. I think it's ben k who will disagree as he thinks Dawson is fairly ordinary. Sorry if I'm wrong Ben, I know it's one of the west australians on the forum that doesn't rate Dawson.

Dawson v Geale was scheduled earlier in the year, but was called off I can't remember why... Or I never knew why????

I think its a 50/50 fight, Dawson has looked good in some of his fights but Solopov is a decent boxer and may be able to beat him if he can stay on the outside. Dawson definently has the power to stop Anton so i think its a really interesting fight.
I would like to see the winner face Geale so we really know who is the best around this weight.
There is also Shannon Taylor around there weight so there are a few decent matchups to be made.

Does anybody know what happened the first time Solopov fought Dondon Sultan? Losing to someone of Sultan's calibre on a first round KO does not sound too good. Does Anton suffer from Chinnus Mundinus?

Sultan is a big puncher and came at Solopov swinging wild early in the fight. Solpov's team practiced for it but unfortunately for Anton, he moved straight back and got caught by a wild right hand.

Solopov is a heavy handed kind of puncher. Not one punch type power like Kostya but thumping power. He's very strong physically and I think he's too much for Dawson.

Have you got a problem with fighters born in other countries moving to Australia and making it their home?

No.... I just don't think we should claim them as "ours"unless they renounce their citizenship of their previous country. The great Rusian swimmer Alexander Popov spent most of his training time in Australia for years but always swam for Russia.

Are you a pro boxer mate?

If so I reckon I can narrow it down to Jeremy Allan or at a stretch maybe even Steven Wills...

Geale has a fight date for 12 October with no opponent named. With a six week break from tonight the winner of this fight may be his opponent.

Makes sense.

I heard that Dawson pulled out of the fight with Geale, Im not sure if it was right as he fought in a kickboxing fight a few weeks after he was scheduled to fight Geale.

Did anyone here see the fight? Sounds like an anticlimax after all the anticipation.

Fox decided we would rather see David Tua serve up the Mexican Heavyweight Champion from the other week (nice double left hook, Dave..but).

It was a good
double left hook, Tua still has the pop to beat anyone at heavy if he lands.

True, but Montana did not help his own cause by standing in front of him. I would like to see Tua fight Cameron next to see just who is the best heavy in New Zealand.
