Just for fun - more amateur trivia re Pavlik:
Kelly was 2 months short of turning 18 at the Olympic Trials.
Sechew Powell beat him in the 2000 Championships semifinals, 22-12 (2 months short of turning 18).
He lost in the 1999 Golden Gloves in his first bout to James Webb (he was 17 then); he won the 1999 Under-19 Championships; he lost in the National PAL in his first bout to Dante Craig, 4-1 and that was his national experience for that year.
In 1998, he lost in his first bout at the JO Nationals to Jose Celaya, 4-1 he was 16); won the Junior Golden Gloves in July. He won the Senior (JO) 147 Lb. division at the National PAL in October. He probably participated in and/or won Silver Gloves tournaments as a JO (I don't have all the SG results from way back).

That is usually true. However, Javier Molina won the Olympic Trials at 17 and he boxes in the 141# division. Mike Hunter just turned 19 and he won the trials at 201+.walshb wrote:21 V 17 is a hell of an advantage IMO for a middleweight.
I would expect the 21 year old to be a lot more physically mature.
