He probably should move back down to 201 as he's really too short for 201+. He spent a lot of time head-hunting and very rarely did he throw any body shots (which is always good defense against a taller opponent). That said, he does have skills in a weight division that is generally lacking same.

Just out of interest - how tall is he..?

Over here, I compete at 200 (201) but it ain't always easy (walk around at 215-220) but at about 6'2, I feel a bit on the short side for Super.

Joey is probably 5'10", give or take an inch. That's why he has problems with tall guys. Height is a great advantage in amateur boxing.

yea he does have a problem with tall guys, but i heard he fought a guy 6'2 6'3 in the finals which he did great against, so i guess he is trying to change his style? i think he will be a great 201 for the next 4 years!!

I'm 6'3 and at 201 at GG nat in Omaha in 2006, most guys were around my height. I have seen guys in Europe 5'11 HVY. It is not a good much, you expend alot of energy jsut try to get inside and head movement.

If you're referring to the finals at the PAL, I've already commented on that. As I stated before, he mostly head-hunted and didn't really use any combinations or body punching. He did decision the taller opponent but, in my opinion, he'd be better at 201. 8)

No - I was there reporting the Championship results and watching the bouts. See my previous statement about my opinions.

Many of our elite boxers will be turning pro now. Whether or not they do well in the pros remains to be seen. I wish them all the best of luck.

I'm surprised that Joey went up in weight. After the U.S. Championships, his grandpa had said that Joey might move down to 178. I guess the decision to move up for the PAL tourney paid off.

Tyson was not an exceptional amateur, either. He could hit but couldn't box. And couldn't get past the taller guys (Tillman) when it counted. Joey actually has some skills that could be better used at 178 or 201 where he would have an advantage due to said skills. He is a bit chubby which tells me he could probably trim down.

Mel, not sure if I agree with you on Tyson. To make the boxoffs and come in 2nd for the Olympic team as a 17 year old (To the eventual Gold Medalist may I add) is pretty darn good. If one of our amateur accomplished that this year we would be thrilled.

yes, but i heard danny garcia got robbed when he fought javier in the finals of the trials, i think danny garcia should get the credit he deserves, which no one gives to him!! he was only 17 when he won the u.s. championships in 2006, which nobody seems to give him credit for in one of the most experienced weight classes, so i think he should start getting more respect, from everyone!!

In case you didn't already know, almost every boxer who loses gets robbed. Just want to make sure you understand that. And since you weren't there to see the bout, you probably shouldn't be giving someone else's opinion. The minute I see "I heard," I tune out.

I think Danny Garcia has earned and gained a lot of respect during his amatuer years and has had an enormous amount of credit given to him - as have all our elite boxers, win or lose.

So your point is?

I agree that Joey would be better suited for 178 or 201.
