Yep for every fight aswell, even the Sykes fight.... good lad :TU:
His missus (or daughter) also had a cracking pair of bangers. Big up Christopher Ellison :TU:
Thats his name.... I watched it with the old man, he spent more time trying to remember Burnsides name, than he did watching Gomez trying to break Carls hands with his head :box:

Give Carl some credit. I think he can beat Micthell. I hope so as Mitchell is so over rated.

Blimey Rob, I started my career as an estate agent (commercial) we are not all that bad mate :box: :TU:
Ho ho, no offense John. I was just trying to imagine turning up to view a property & meet the estate agent, only to have Michael Gomez leap out of his car, in a suite, and ram his head up against yours as he introduces himself.

Johanesson was very composed. Gomez was always dragging it out of himself. I had it 4-2 Johanesson by the end. Gomez was brave and exciting and pretty much delivered what we hoped he would.

Johanesson came back from an awful setback and proved himself excellent at British level. He just knew when to tuck up and when to pay Gomez back. Landed some lovely jolting shots.

Gomez graceless and wankerish as ever (but he made it an excellent fight). His fans really thought he was going to win, every rally he made. Couldn't have all those bloody hat-wearers screaming "Manchester, Manchester" in the middle of Donny.

Good stoppage. Johanesson beat the crap out of him in rd 6, though it looked a tad inconclusive from the balcony where I was watching. Great fight put on by Maloney. This is what British boxing should be about every week.

Wasn't impressed by Fewkes. His fans are just football nobheads who'll cheer just because Sheffield won. This was really negative stuff though he won all rds but the last (IMO). What was the score, 77-75? My arse. He doesn't compare with the performances we've seen by Truscott and Barker on recent Sky shows.

Great fight, Carl did a fantastic job - Think the fight should have been stopped a shade earlier - Gomez took too many brain rattlers for my liking - Cant see too many disagreeing with Gomez down at the pub though, he would kill you if you voiced your opinion - Anyway Mitchell next for Carl, I think on the Amir Khan bill - Just think Khan and Mitchell both beaten on the same night, FW will be pissed off - Khans comming of age fight, welcome to the adult world, proper opposition, now he is a man - Sorry bit old fashioned never have been able to acknowledge 18 year olds as men and women.

Oh, Gary Thornhill would have beaten Carl aswell.....
I'm sure plenty of people would have beaten him. Give the lad some credit.
I do give him credit but im just painting a realistic view of the levels..to me that was the sad thing, Gomez circa 2003 would have beaten Carl with ease..obviously he couldnt keep it together outside the ring but that his fault...

Not disrespecting Carl at all

i enjoyed the scrap, i dont think we can say gomez is shot, but he is certainly past his peak and a bit shop worn, still, gomez asked carl lots of questions early doors and carl covered up and started to 'get accurate' in about the 3rd i guess.

all in all a great little bill from frank maloney with some decent even scraps, i was going to take my son but opted for the tv instead, was a bit worried about trouble if gomez got stopped im afraid, sorry if anyone does not agree with that but unfortunately thats my reason.

absolutely. i think there must be some kind of esteem problem on these boards beause any time someone does well some fvcker has to find a way to drag it down.

this was excellent 2-way infighting, short, compact punches all the way.

it would always have been a good fight. in 2003 Carl was learning to tighten his technique up, American style though wasn't he? Judging by his British dominance - Fehintola, Burns, Gomez - I'd say it was a good move.

Gomez was always unreliable but capable of inspiration. Carl's the more efficient fighter - at this level he seems to have a cooler head, knowing when to tuck up & when to unleash.

this was one of Gomez's finest moments IMO (obviously not up there with the Arthur win but easiy as good a fight) and it erased the stench of the McDonagh fight.

Will agree with you to an extent but there was no snap in Gomez's work, big swinging hooks and not they short efficiant shots he used to deliver..

Carl did his bit though, I believe many a british fighter would have wilted last night but Carl showed he is a skilled operator..

But nothing will convince me that the Gomez who fought Thornhill and Arthur would have taken Carl apart...

maybe but Gomez had always been on patchy form - an emotional, up & down fighter - and regardless, I think he delivered everything we could have expected & more at this stage of his career.

Gomez had great wins over Kirakosyan and Arthur - both of these might go on to win world titles - but he could lose to fighters below that level (i.e. Bognar, the 1st Gomez fight I ever saw). Personally, I never know what to expect of him.

I liked Johanesson's more compact style & straighter punching - a lot. He impressed me last night.

Im not denying that..the Gomez who turned up against Bognar(twice) and Lear would be destroyed..plus Gomez whipped himself into shape, I hope he can sort his life out, maybe train?

What im trying to work out is how good Carl is..ive come to the conclusion hes reasonable, good by Brit standards but no better, he will lose to anyone who is quality or inspired but will beat domestic class for fun

But im not knocking him and would hate for anyone to think i was...

Well, sitting through the undercards made me appreciate that Johanesson and Gomez were excellent Brit level offensive fighters. For what that's worth (which IMO is worth a lot, to see grassroots bouts of that level).

I think Carl got KOd by a world class fighter in Kirakosyan, a guy whose punch picking was just outstanding.

Sensible mate - A guy I used to work with went to a Derby County/Forrest match with his 8 yr old lad and the whole thing ended in tears - Comming away from the game a Forrest supporter punched him in the face so he hit back and they were both arrested - His son was taken from him and he had no idear where he was - Two hours passed by before father and son were reunited and the police by then had involved social services - An absolute nightmare - There are certain football/boxing matches you just have to avoid with kids for their safety - You did the right thing putting your lad first.

Thats the way it should be - Long gone are the days when my Dad would discuss an off side decision with a rival fan on the terraces - In those days, the 60s, it was safe to take kids to any match - Glad it went off OK but you just never know these days.

firstly i want 2 congradulate carl on fighting a great fight. like a true champion came back from the shock defeat against kirakosyan within 3 months, he could of took on a confidance builder type match, or sulked but went with gomez as a match comeback. which took balls.

great fight last night and i certanly werent disapointed, both fighters showed heart and courage but after the 1st IMO johanneson was landing the better quality punches the whole time. gomez showed heart and fighting spirit but not the stamina to keep the pace he set. (which johanneson had in the successfull burns title defence)
both men have warrior spirit but unfortunatly Gomez will be remembered more for his tantrum after vann called a hault to the match in the 6th.
it was the right call to make, mens healths and lives shouldnt be put at risk and vann made a good judgement call.

hopefully FW will go ahead with the johanneson-mitchell bill on the 8/12 as planned and if johanneson is successfull (which i think he will be) then hopefully he can get another shot @ moving on from domestic lvl.

will be intresting 2c wot happens :D

Great fight, I actually thought that Vann could have let things go on a bit longer knowing Gomezs penchant for coming back when hurt, but looking at it again its doubtful that Mike could have come back at that stage and Vann did him a favour really stopping it when he did. I really felt Gomez would take it in the first 2 rounds as Carl seemed to be a bit frozen and gunshy, but in the end he fought a very clever fight and showed good resiliance... as for what would have happened had Carl fought the Gomez of some years back, Gomez was always erratic even in his prime and his biggest failing is that he fights too much with his heart and not enough with his brain, which is great to watch but has seen him take far too many punches over the years, his first trainer Brian Hughes advised him to retire years ago and he probably should do now....

Excellent performance by Johanneson who held his nerve after Gomez lobbed the kitchen sink at him in the opening couple of rounds. Johanneson showed an improved defence, worked his jab well as the fight wore on and was accurate with the right hand as he increasingly found room as Gomez tired.

I can understand why Gomez was angry with Micky Vann. He was in bother and the tank looked to be running on empty, but in a championship match with his career on line I think the referee didn't give him every chance. Johanneson was very much in the ascendency though and got stronger as the rounds went by.

Well done Carl who was a very humble winner and refused to gloat, despite Gomez's trademark goading. It will be interesting to see whether Carl goes ahead with the Mitchell fight, its only 7 weeks away and he has the Lonsdale belt for keeps now. Having said that, its difficult to see another avenue for Maloney to take him down after he was comprehensively beaten by Kirakosyan.

If it happens, Johanneson-Mitchell will be very interesting primarily because Kevin loves a scrap, too.
