Actually he was ahead 21-5 at one point, only four away.

In the last European Championships, Maharramov only lost by three points to the eventual champion Georgiev. Although, based on his first result, Maharramov was not at his best for this tournament, but its still an eye-opening result for Molina, considering his age.

With Wilder out, I was hoping Keith Tapia would carry on the torch. He got spanked by France. Too bad.

With the draw that our boxers received at the World's and with how they have performed, it is looking like we will get AT LEAST least 5 boxers qualified for the Olympics. I'm hoping for 8 or 9. 10 would be too much to ask. Wilder needs a teammate for the next qualifier anyway!

At 106# Luis Yanez has 2 relatively easy bouts and therefore he should make the final 8.

One of our best hopes for a medal at the Olympics, Rausee Warren, might not qualify in Chicago. He has an easy next bout, then a tough bout to make the final 8. Will he make it? I hope so.

Another medal hopeful at 119#, Gary Russell, had a relatively tough opening bout and won it clearly. He had an easy 2nd bout and dominated. He now has a very tough 3rd bout to make the final 8. I think he will.

At 125#, Raynell Williams had one of the toughest opponents in his weight class and won it. He now has 2 relatively easy bouts to make the final 8. He will be going to China.

At 132 Sadam Ali won a tough bout, but he has 2 more tough ones to make the final 8. He could do it, but he might have to travel with Wilder. I really like Sadam so I'm hoping he makes it in Chicago.

At 141#, Javier Molina had a very tough 2nd bout, but dominated. He has another tough bout for his Olympic berth, but since he already defeated one of the best I think he should make the final 8.

At 152, Demetrius Andrade has a tough draw. His next bout is OK, but then he has a very tough bout to make the final 8. Will he make it in Chicago. I think he will, but it will be tough.

At 165#, Shawn Estrada is continuing to do well. His next bout should be easy and then he faces the winner of Raymond v Buga to make the final 8. I think he will do it.

At 201, Wilder lost a close one, but he had a tough draw. It would have been hard with that draw to make the final 4. It is a shame that the big guys have to make it to the semi-finals to qualify.

At 201+ Mike Hunter's next bout is tough, then the next one is so-so, and then in his last bout to make the final 4 he will face one of the toughest SH’s. He had a very tough draw. I wish him well and if he qualifies in Chicago he will have proved that he belongs in the Olympics!

Good to see you back Dennis.

The one I most disagree with you is Raynell Williams. He probably has the toughest draw of anyone. Next is a fighter from Kazakhstan and then one of the best Mongolian fighters. If he makes it through it will be something, but given the way he let his hands go against Djelkhir says something really good.

Maybe Raynell and Molina can become the new Oscar and Floyd.

I most certanly don't equate either Raynell or Javi with Oscar. Neither are as talented nor have the power. I haven't seen an Oscar since Oscar. Rau'shee, with his speed, is more like Floyd than either of the above. I'm just glad they are doing well and have my fingers crossed. And winning gold medals at the Olympics does not necessarily mean pro boxing will be energized. A gold medal does not make a boxer a good pro.

I was going to go this weekend, but I am training Jordan for the World Golden Gloves tourney which take place November 16-17. It is more important to make sure he is ready. I might go next Friday, November 2nd. I really wanted to go to the finals on the 3rd, but we have a bunch of our gym's boxers scheduled to box at a show on the 3rd.

If I end up going on the 2nd, I'll give you a PM or you could PM me with your phone # and I'll call you.

Emile - I haven't been gone, just busy and not posting as much.
I was impressed with Ray's win and think he can qualify.

What about Gary Russell? He is fast and hits hard for his weight class.

Estrada has matured! Look at this; and tell me for those of you who have watched him fight before and seen his reactions before; if he wouldn't have gone ballistic after this little incident:

Good job by Shawn on maintaining his composure and stopping the Israeli.

Yes, Kolya the old Shawn would have been DQ'd for retaliating. The new Estrada seems to keep his cool better and just outbox his opponent. Way to go Shawn! Keep on with the new attitude and showing off your boxing skills.

Yes! Payback time for Zambrano as he blows out Davi Souza 28-15 in the 57 kg... No local judges or software glitches could help the Brazilian now.
