Was it already in the books that Collins and Nelson were going to retire, giving Joe and Macaroni easier fights? If not, let's just say, God knows Collins and Johnny were old and creaky enough, weren't they. They couldn't have been pitted in any later vs those 2, that's for sure.

FW fighters treat belts like toilets. They won't go for it unless the cubicle has been vacated. Then they flush the belt down the boghole.
Such a good post, one of the most frustrating aspects of Boxing recently - seeing Nicky Cook and Alex Arthur get to eliminator status with a serious opponent as the carrot and then fight for mysterely vacant / or interim WBO titles. I mean, how is Arthur the interim champion.

Aside from Hatton vs Tszyu I am struggling to think of one time in which a SN fighter challenged a champion in recent years on an SN show. We did have Williams vs Klitchsko.

Same logic that says, Calzaghe-Hopkins is a crap fight. I supose

If Locket deserves a shot at the middleweight championship of the world, then i'm a Dutchman.

I love how naval British boxing, and its hangers-on are

Hangers on?

Do you feel Duddy deserves a shot more?

Do you know what naval means? Are you talking about boxing at sea or are you out of your depth, sailor :TU:

Or are we talking belly buttons?

Ian, I'm as stumped as you mate....

We don't always rate them above their attributes and ability. Lockett's links and ties have got him into this WBO position, of couse they have. But he'd be a decent opponent, he's no mug.

Sorry, I meant Navel, of course, inward looking, like how some people think Woods would be a better fight for Calzaghe than Bernard effing Hopkins , or Gary Locket somehow, somewhere deserves to be ranked as the 2nd best middleweight in the world.

Its the kind of gibberish i expect of these forums these days. This British boxing bubble get on my nerves, it does.

Agree with you for most of that - I have experienced first-hand how inflammatory it is to criticise British boxers (my "over-rated" articles).

I think Woods is a decent fight for Calzaghe, though, although Hopkins better for the long-term.

And what's that about Spud?

Hopkins has more name value. Woods would be a more entertaining fight. If he fights and beats Woods, surely he'd go for Hopkins after anyway...

It would kind of suck Calzaghe-Hopkins deciidng light heavyweight - especially with talents like Dawson and Diaconu out there at the same weight. Some of you goons are acting like Hopkins is the Bob Foster of today's light heavies.

Yeah - Undefeated and Bosante and Campas - as poor as they are, are every bit as good as Lockett's recent foes.

Just who exactly has Ryan Rhodes beaten in the last 5 years?

Locket has fought 3 rounds in 12 months - He needs to move from Sports Network pronto. Its guys like Lockett who are suffering from FW's policy of less, but bigger shows - I'm fed up of only seeing Lockett on these Gabriel Clarke bits at the end.

Not his fault, but Duddy has done more in his career - for all his hype and flaws. Campas should have beaten Matt Vanda in the eyes of some people and he still holds his own with top 11-20 callibre opponents.

I would expect someone with Locket's ability and connections to get a shot.
Whether you think he deserves it or not, life is about grabbing opportunities
There is a reasonable chance Pavlik will vacate so Gary will get a shot in a winnable fight
John Duddy would be made for him, the Irishman's defence is not good enough against someone who hits like a horse.
Also bring in the Enzo Calzaghe factor, hopefully Britain will another holder of one of the big belts

Very mature comeback..

Lockett is a better fighter than Duddy, no question IMO. The FW factor with the WBO is the main reason for his ranking with them but nobody is saying he is the "second best middleweight in the world" because he isn't. Taylor is.

I actually fancy Jermain to get his title back.....

Whether Lockett is better than Duddy is your opinion. One in which I agree with (but not that confident about to say "no question"). However, Duddy has beaten B/C level opposition (fair and square, no dodgy decision) - Locket has beaten C/D level opposition - fair and square also... But surely the fighter who has beaten the better oppostion is more worthy of a title fight. Even if he stands less of a chance.

No-one is suggesting either is over due a shot or anything.

Let's have them fight each other in an eliminator then... :TU:

He struggled against an ancient Campas, I'd fancy Lockett to easily outbox him. And I'm not building lockett up to be superman, I just think he is a lot better than John Duddy. All hype.
