Burns was meant to fight walsh on dec 15th, fight fell through as the last min. As soon as the fight was pulled warren was in negotiations with golden boy to fight on feb 16th. Burns would have been ready, he trained for a fight that never happened. His team didnt want it.
The fight fell through at the last minute, meaning he was on the weight and had peaked ready for the fight. After that any fighter, especially at world level, needs at least a week off as if they had actually been in the ring, leaving 7 weeks to prepare for a unification fight, only an idiot would take that on. Rees had no choice because he was the challenger and didn't have another route to a world title, so he'd take whatever chance he got.

So Burns shouldn't try to fight anyone good because people will talk down his achievements anyway?
What about gamboa....guarentee if he beats him everyone will forget about him ducking broner and he will be the man to beat at 135
Rio you are a boring wee man one day when you grow up you might leave your bedroom and find a girlfriend sad sack
The truth hurts billy. Keep avoiding the best fighters and the fights fans want to see and you will never be anything more than a paper champ. You ran from broner you obviously don't even want to talk about gamboa as he is too much of a threat.
Rio I know for a fact Gamboa has been mentioned and contact has been made between the promoters
, Gamboa would lose to Ricky and I for one don't see him as a threat or any of the other LW's has Ricky is the best in the world at present end of?
You still haven't provided proof of two offers to Ricky from Broner can't you find it? CLOWN
Your talking a load of shite billy its common knowledge you have turned down the broner fight twice, why say otherwise??
When did Fury become a stadium filler? Last time I checked he was hardly packing them in at the arena level. Any stadiums he sells out will be down to his opponent rather than him.

nicky was at least an ex champ, MrGallagher is getting a little frustrated that he's not trained a world champion so he will shout his mouth off saying his fighters are in world title eliminators when there not,Corolla is miles behind Ricky in all depts although a good domestic fighter

It won't, it will be the fight. Haye wasn't a big seller until he boxed Enzo and did crap against Barrett after that. Froch has never completely sold out Nottingham arena but with Kessler he did the twice as big O2 in no time. Very, very few can sell out regardless of the opponent.

Maybe there wasnt an offer the 1st time. All i know is when broner was made mandatory for burn vacated so its hard to make an offer when you have already run away.

rio wrote:Billy you turned down 2 offical offers for broner and the reason he moved up to 147 is because you made it quite clear you were never going to fight him. If you wanted broner it would be burns v broner this weekend which would have give you plenty of time to ger ready. At least we have someone like froch who actually goes out his way to fight the toughest possible fights that the fans actually want to see.
Except a rematch with Ward of course.

Shouldn't build ups be before he's champ? Champs should fight the best. If he took on the top 5 (& beat) in his first 5 fights he'd be a legend by now (like Froch)

When was the second offer of the Broner fight since I can only remember one at 7 weeks notice.
Burns was already had a fight scheduled before the proposed date making it an irrelevant excuse. His December fight fell through so it would have worked out fine
So you being in and around Ricky You would know better than me and his manager, your some man rio for one man FFS guys like you need to stop reading things and making up your own assumptions, YOUR WRONG!!!!!!
You get angry at specific posters but to be fair it's the opinion of most on most forum and most boxing fans

Am a big Ricky Burns fan but this run of fighting unknowns is doing his profile no favors. Billy comes over super defensive but does not provide coherent arguments to counter the negativity. It's a bit sad.

Hope it all works out for the best for Ricky.

What frustrates me about the Burns situation is not just that he's fighting crap, its that he's sprinting backwards in terms of career progression. He has beaten good fighters: Martinez, Moses, Mitchell & Katsidis. Those fights put him in the position to fight the likes of Broner and he's made very clear he's not interested in operating at the top level. This is a camp with a fighter good enough to get in the top level mix pro-actively choosing not to step it up. That is the living, breathing definition of a ducker.

This stuff about 'building' Burns is a red herring, he's always been a big draw. There is no building in terms of boxing or fan base that needs to be done. The only thing being built is Team Burns's bank balance.

Macklin and Murray have never been world champs but I'll tell you what, they box at the top level of the game and are players at MW in a way that Burns sadly is not at LW.

There's plenty of tapes of Beltran and his style and strengths and weaknesses are known; that last fellow Ricky boxed, flipping heck, he were a dark horse. I can't really see all the mither; Ricky is very good, Broner has jumped 2 weight divisions; he'd have beaten Ricky I think but he maybe wouldn't have made the weight for the fight - he had form. Burns is one of the very top men at lightweight - a historic division, there are some very good men and some good match ups. Ricky comes across well and seems a decent bloke; best of luck to him, hope he earns a load and is in some exciting bouts.

Funny how he could make the weight when he wan fighting layala and evantson (however you spell it) with no mention of weight complaints then when its announced broner your mandatory you drop the belt. Also tell me more about the talks you have had with gamboa people? Do you mean talk as in no we are not fighting you or is this in the works for :D your next fight? If this fight happens i will take back everything i said however i think we both no it wont happen....more likely to see the walsh fight rearranged as i remember everyone was getting very excited about that one

He felt he couldn't make the weight safely anymore and made a professional decision to move up, unlike Broner who when struggling at the weight didn't move up and came in 3 1/2 pounds overweight. If he'd stayed and come in overweight he would have people complaining, but he moves up and people still complain. Plus, he moved up and fought Katsidis, who was a dangerous opponent.

I would gladly fight Gonzalez again, purely because I know Ricky was nowhere near his best due to overtraining,I think Gonzalez may win a world title he certainly has the skills

Billy, the people who make the decisions for Ricky (mainly Eddie) won't let that guy anywhere near Ricky again, as he'd probably win next time. Maybe its time for a new trainer for Ricky ? You've just admitted he over-trained and was nowhere near his best last time out. That's your fault, you're the trainer taking your percentage of his purses, sounds like you didn't do your job properly. You're only still the trainer of a world champ because the other guy quit after making your guy look ordinary.
