Agreed.

DrDuke wrote: ↑22 Nov 2021, 14:11It was in Spence' intrest to promote him against Crawford, especially acknowledging that Crawford had become a free agent.
Disagree.
Crawford's purse split demands for the Spence Jr. fight don't reflect the numbers he generates via gate receipts, audience figures and PPV revenue.
Terence previously claimed he deserved the lion's share. This is a huge stumbling block.
There's no fight to promote. And Spence Jr. and Crawford would be asked questions neither man could honestly answer, since negotiations haven't taken place.
And we don't even know yet whether Crawford is willing to work with the PBC. I guess that needs to be negotiated too.
Crawford is currently in no man's land until he's negotiated a deal with a network and a promoter.

I'd love to see the Crawford-Spence Jr. fight.
But I fear it might be too late and interest has waned.
Both fighters have been inactive and both are probably slightly past-their-primes for very different reasons.
I feel that Crawford beats Spence Jr., but (in terms of financials) Terence definitely deserves to be regarded as the B-side.
And the fight won't happen if Crawford demands a purse that is far greater than his commercial worth.

In my opinion, it's a 50-50 fight and no one has a right to demand more.
If to pick a winner, I won't doubt in Crawford at all.

From a commercial perspective, Spence Jr. deserves the larger purse.
The PPV figures for Crawford-Porter could ultimately decide Bud's fate.
If the numbers are low (significantly less than Spence Jr-Porter), and I think they will be, then the PBC might be unable to afford Crawford's lofty purse demands, especially if Fox or Showtime are unimpressed with Bud's figures.
If Al Haymon thinks that Crawford's priced himself out of the Spence Jr. fight, then it won't get made.
The PBC then has to consider if Crawford's audience viewership figures justifies the cost of his paydays. And whether it’s worthwhile recruiting him.
If they aren't, then Crawford might be compelled to look elsewhere
Bob Arum claimed that he was losing money staging Crawford’s bouts and admitted he was more than willing to offload him.
I don’t expect Matchroom or DAZN to pay Crawford more than his commercial worth.
So where does that leave Bud? If Haymon and Hearn don’t want him?

Is it known already how many buys has Crawford-Porter generated?

No. They haven’t been announced yet.
I hope they’re big, for Crawford’s sake, but ESPN PPV’s have historically done bad numbers.
Crawford only achieved 55K buys for the Postol bout and 150K buys for the Khan mismatch.
I think Spence-Porter might have been 350K, but that figure is based on my fuzzy recollection.

They should reinstate same day weigh-ins.
All of this rehydration is making a mockery of some of the weight divisions.
It's no longer the welterweight championship of the world, it's the 24 hour rehydration championship from welterweight.
Imagine GGG trying the same stunt at WW?
I think we also know what would happen to Crawford at at a more appropriately higher weight.
Lemieux had to move up after years of rehydration and the walking PED factory, Canelo Alvarez, can no longer even make middleweight.

3G would be at welter weight if that is where he is strongest.
I think that it should go back to same day weighins too, although I don’t blame anyone for rehydrating according to the rules. There are calculated risks in the drain/rehydrate strategy.
You seem to be overly disturbed by specific individuals rather than the rule.

Spence behaved like a b!tch after Crawford's win, avoided a confrontation with Bud and said salty stuff to Porter and his dad. He's in a losing position now. If he fights Crawford, he'll be slapped, if he avoids Crawford with comments like after Bud-Porter, he'll remain seen as a b!tch.
I didn’t interpret Spence’s walkout at the end of the fight as you have. I honestly think that Spence was disappointed in Kenny Porter stopping the fight. I’m sure the towel throw hits existing fighters a lot harder than it does with us fans.
But if I'm wrong then one does have to question what Spence is prizefighting for exactly. A loss by Crawford hits Spence’s future earnings considerably. It’s THE fight that will clearly be the most profitable of his career so if he was upset over the fact that Crawford won then I think that fans should not look forward to a Crawford/Spence fight in the future because it’s not going to be likely. Both guys need to want it.

For me it wouldn't be so, if he just walked away. But with further comments it looked not like an attempt to critisize Porter alone, but to use the critics of Porter to discredit Crawford.

I see what you mean with that comment. Also, Spence and TC were arguing about whether TC could KO Porter after Spence failed to do so. So that reaction and walkout could have been a result of that. I saw that video yesterday of Spence telling Tc he’d never knock out Potter to his face.

I thought it was interesting that Porter mentioned he wasn't as hurt as he was in the Spence fight. Like Crawford said though, the way you get the W doesn't matter. He said all the top guys are great in their own ways, and bring different styles and talents to their fights.

Porter is all over the place.
I have just listened to the latest edition of the Porter Way podcast.
He has Bud Crawford as a guest on it, but after Bud finished, Porter said to his friends that Errol never hurt him once and Bud's punches stung more and he felt them more.

Thats been the case for at least a couple of years allready, and after Canelo has the Cruiserweight bout, he likely won't be able to make 168 anymore. He will likely just, drop down to 175,and settle there, after the Makabu bout,win-lose or draw.
He'll just be in Canelo vs Kovalev size-mode for the remainder of his career, unless the money offer to fight a Heavyweight champ is too great to resist.
